Banded on 1/14 in Houston, TX

Recommended Posts

I was really nervous, even vomited right before banding but everything went well. I had to have a hatial hernia fixed during the banding and now I am experiencing acid reflux for the 1st time in my life...is this normal? The gas pains in my upper back/shoulders is awful but I am trying to stay positive. I weighed 203lbs at banding and have lost 2.5 lbs in the last 3 days. I am hoping to reach my goal weight of 135 by summer, hope thats realistic :)

Look forward to seeing your progress. I will be starting at the same weight as you did. I have an appointment next week in Houston, 3 hours away, to see if I can set this surgery up for March.

Thanks! I went thru TrueResults and it has been a good experience. I paid for my surgery out of pocket since my BMI is at the low end of the obesity range and I had no morbid conditions. It was $9900 and I am gng to make sure I did not just give the $ away so I am gng to try really hard to be successful w the band. I have a friend that got banded 3 years ago and she went from a size 20 to a size 2, so I am hopeful since I have seen the resluts of sticking to the rules. I hope you get your surgery scheduled, lets keep in touch and support each other, I know I need all the help I can get.

Christine

Nice to meet you. We got banded around the same time. I'm starting out a bit heavier then you though:) I think you will be able to reach your goal by this summer. Just stay focused! I had to have a hernia repair done too. But, my doc repaired it and told me it would STOP my cronic acid reflux. Maybe you should contact your doctor since you've never had this probem before. Good luck to you! I started out at 254 lbs and now I am at 247lb.

Hi there and congratulations on your surgery!. Did having your hernia repaired cause a larger scar than normal? Also, did you know you had it going into surgery, or is this something they find once inside? I'm having my surgery in a few days and I am very concerned about scarring. Thanks and best of luck with your weight loss...you can do it!

Hi,

Thanks for the encouragement and congrats on a great start to your journey as well. I talked to the nurse this morning and she said I am probably getting the acid reflux from laying down after eating. I have been doing better today, and am happy I am able to breathe easier due to using the spirometer. I even had some cream of mushroom Soup today diluted w chicken broth, it was delicious! Can't wait until week 3 when I can have mushy foods again.Alos, I weighed myself and have lost 3 lbs since Friday :)

Hi Suzanna,

I have a the usual 2 inch cut in the middle of my abdomen and 4 smaller (like 2 cm) incisions around that. They are already healing and I am hoping the clamp marks under my breast will go away soon too, they feel like burns. I wasn't told about the marks left by the clamps until I asked the nurse on the phone this morning, she told me they would go away on their own but they do itch since the marks are right under my breasts and it gets warm under there. I haven't worn a bra since Friday when I got banded but I will have to tomorrow when I go back to work and I hope I don't irritate the marks anymore. I didn't know about the hernia until they cut me open and said I could've swallowed a whole meatball with the size my stomach opening was. No, the incisions are the same as the doctor explained they would be, I was just told I may have gas pains longer since they had to repair the hernia. My friend had the surgery 3 years ago and her incisions are hardly visible. She used maderma on them and it make them fade really nicely. Good luck on your surgery, keep in touch! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
