Banded since Oct. 2003

Recommended Posts

I am new to this discussion forum and have been fairly quiet about my band. I have been banded since October 2003 and have not lost all the weight that I need to since then. I weighed 342lbs and now I am 265. I have had a lot of ups and downs with the band. All the usual stuff from too tight to not tight enough to pain etc which all have been addressed. I am now facing a challenge where my band I am told is filled to capacity or just over yet I have no restriction. I am sometimes experiencing a very funny sensation going up my neck and jaw but it does not last very long but is very uncomfortable. It is very hard to describe almost like a cramping feeling. I would like to hear from any one that has been banded as long as I with similar experience. I am wondering if my band has slipped or eroded. I will be checking that out very soon with my Dr. I am sometimes very ashamed as I have not lost all the weight that I wanted to and have been banded for 7 years.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
