Honestly, it is the best decision I have ever made for myself! I would do it again if I needed to! I have had a very easy going process. I have been banded for 2 1/2 weeks and have lost 15 pounds!! I know that will slow down, but it sure is a great way to boost self esteem.

I hope you make the right choice for yourself, no matter what anyone tells you on here, everyone's body is different and you need to decide for yourself if it's the right choice for you!! Good luck!

Hi Lisa, Welcome to LBT!! :)

I also would do it all over again. I think that It is the best decesion I have ever made. I have been banded for almost 14 months and have lost a little over 70lbs. My Dr. told me it would take about 2 years of good work to lose what I want to. For me it hasn't been easy because you CAN eat around the band and I have found the way. I am now back on track and loving it and myself all over again.

Again Welcome to LBT, It's a wonderful place to be!!

i think anyone who has had the surgery would agree that it was an excellent decision. SOME weight lost is always better than NONE!!! its about more than just dropping some weight and seeing your face looking slimmer. its a new way of eating, thinking, living, behaving....

if youre one of those people that focuses on all the things u cant have then it might be hard for you. i tell you, my first five days post-op it seemed like every other commercial was about mcdonalds, burger king, and (my fav) SONIC. it was like i could remember what the food tasted like just to see it on tv. yes i wanted it, but i had to program my mind to see those commercials as the devil!!!! (hey, whatever works!)

those commercials were trying to steal, kill, and destroy what having the surgery stood for..and i wasnt having it!!! so whenever they flashed one i sipped some more on my Water or crystal light, and tried to decide if i wanted to work towards being a size 6 or an 8!!

Hi Lisa! Welcome.

Making the decision to have the band was the best gift I have ever given myself. I did a TON of research on the band and my doctor is very very thorough, I had to go to all day informational classes before they would go any further. They also required a psych eval and a visit with the psychologist as well as nutritional counseling and working with fitness/exercise professionals.

These things are vital I believe to making sure you feel comfortable with your decision. I was banded in september and have lost 44lbs. It IS a lot of work and EVERYONE tests their band's limits sometimes (we're still human after all), but the key is if you are willing to make the lifelong changes to your actions and thinking that you will need to be sucessful.

The drawbacks for the surgery to me were mostly things I could control (i.e., if I eat around the band or too fast, I will pay the consequences) and the ability to be in control - really be in control - was a true first for me and the key to my sucess.

Good luck with your decision. I have found the people on this board to be a fantastic source of smiles, support, accurate information and frank talk, use them anytime,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
