I LOVE CEREAL!!! Can I eat it? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind. I know I should be watching my sugar intake so please suggest something.

Thanks!!

I eat it and have had very little problems. Some don't because they consider it drinking which eating, but I find the cereal stays with me long, especially high Protein cereal. However, I do not eat it often.

Cereals high in Fiber and low in sugar would be the best. Fiber one, cheerios and shredded wheat are all good choices. Although, they still have a lot of carbs so you may want to eat it in moderation.

Cereal is my own personal Waterloo. I do buy Kashi Go Crunch High Protein version and add about 10 g to my greek yoghurt for breakfast.

Again because cereal is a trigger food for me I warn against having it as a treat. It is way to easy to eat many servings at once. I would measure out 1/4- 1/2 cup and not go back for seconds.

For me, cereal just doesn't cut it; never has. I wouldn't eat it too often unless you have a brand that's pretty high in protien. It sort of wants to go right through the band and it's mostly carbs, which won't do anything as far as keeping you from getting hungry. Oh, and that Kashi? That stuff will make you poop like crazy!

My favorite cereal which I literally ate almost every single day last year, is Frosted Mini Wheats. I crushed it up and tried it once about 4 weeks after surgery. It created a lot of pressure as soon as I started eating it, which tells me that it is not getting chewed enough. I miss it, but it seems to me to be not worth the trouble to chew it endlessly.

Kashi GOLEAN, high Protein and high fiber, which helps with that OTHER problem!

And pooping is bad?:) I kinda miss it:)

Kashi Go Lean is great with or without milk. I toss a handful in my yogurt but I haven't bought cereal for myself in months because it would take me forever to eat it. I buy granola or Fiber One bars if I want a cereal fix.

I enjoy cereal also. I try to eat something whole grain. Right now, I have a box of Special K (and to be honest, it's the one with the chocolatey bits). I have 3/4 cup and usually 4-6 oz of skim milk. Sometimes I add dried cranberries also.

Me too. Cereal for breakfast does keep me full 3-4 hrs at least. I love Special K and plain cheerios and some of the Fiber Ones. I eat a few slices of centercut bacon with it(not in the bowl!) or a cheesestick or half a Greek yogurt so I get Protein boost too. I won't give up Spec K, I love it and Spec K is not why I am overweight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
