New and looking for help

Recommended Posts

Hello all, My name is Crystal York.. I am starting my journey to get the lapband. I just got married in June of 2010 and have met the love of my life. I have battled with weight my whole life and really would like to get down to an ideal weight to start a family with my husband one day, would aslo be nice to feel better about my self. I am just not getting added to his insurance in Feb... I wanted to know how long the process takes and what all I need to do to get it rolling. Any and all help is welcome. I seen alot of b4 and after pics and it has given me so much hope. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Welcome and Congrats on your new Husband. The process all depends on your insurance, my insurrance requires three months. But that three months requires that I meet with my Pcp, nutrionist and have a pshy evaluation. After all that is done which is Feb 7th, I will be scheduled for surgery.

Good luck to both of you. Sometimes the process takes a long time, but it is so worth it. If you have a 3 month wait, it will go quickly. It sometimes takes most of that time to arrange all the preop appointments (like EKG, psych eval.....)

I know I know it will take sometime, I am just so excited about it all. My ins does not kick in till April so I wont be able to get to much rolling till then. I am hoping it gets kicked in march so we will see. I am still a tad scared its gonna be a whole new me but I am determined to get this going and get on the road of losing all this excess weight. Its time to start being healthy and do the things I have never got to do bc I have been so shy and stuff about my weight. I did not even have a wedding bc I did not want to be seen as the fat girl in the dress. So once I do loose the weight my husband and I talked about having a real wedding. So its going to be get I know it is.... thank you both for your kind words.

Some insurance plans also require a 6-month supervised diet before surgery, it all depends on your plan.

For me, I just had to do the psych eval and nutritionist, then scheduled my surgery, which was 6 weeks out from then just because of so many other surgeries booked at the same time. During that 6 week wait was when I saw the pulminologist and my primary doctor had to see me and fill out paperwork saying I'm okay to have the surgery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
