Seeing the Doctor Soon

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how long it takes to get approved and actually get the surgery? I am meeting with my doctor on the 28th to start the process but I am still clueless on how long it takes and if I will even qualify. I've read some other peoples q&a's and I have some of the dame concerns with that I am not 100lbs over weight but I weigh 198 and I am only 5'0ft so would this meet qualifications??

Hi, it seems to be different for everyone. It has taken me 4 months to get everything done. I will find out if I'm approved within the next 2 weeks, and I'm hoping to have a surgery day in Feb. I started the process in Oct. Good Luck!!

You should do a BMI check.... do a google search for BMI Calculator. If you have sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc then your BMI only needs to be 35. If you dont have any of those complications, it needs to be 40.

I am 5 feet tall also and I know the BMI for 198 is like 38-39, just under the requirement if you have no problems at all. Gain 10 pounds before the consult and you'll be fine! LOL, okay not the best advice there but still, it would work.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
