Experience with Port Flip?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys.

I am due to go see my doctor tomorrow for him to reopen my port site as it has flipped.

Has anyone had this procedure done? Does it hurt alot? Should I get someone else to drive me?

Please any advice would be great :)

Well I went this morning and had it done. It wasnt too bad, nice and numb so no pain, The area is a little tender now, but its only been 2 hours...so it may get worse.

Port Flip...how does that happen ? I thought they anchored or sutured those things down during surgery ?

My band is a "french band" apparently blink.gif I should pay more attention to my Dr. The port is smaller and they dont stitch it. When he flipped it back over he put some stiches in and we are hoping for the best. Ill know how successful its been within a few weeks when I get another fill.

My "port fix" is scheduled for Tuesday. The drs office went ahead and got it approved for a complete removal (I guess just in case?!)

This is my dr's first time he has had a port flip.

They are giving me the option of either going fully under or under twilight.

But what happens if it's more than just the port flipped? If you were under twilight, were you aware of them cutting you? (EW / Scary!!)

How is it in comparison to the original surgery?

Just looking for some advice...

My port apparently shifted after surgery plus it's at a bit of a wonky angle. It makes fills tricky and longer than average. It's a good thing I'm not squimish or hearing my Doc jab around with the needle on plastic till he finds the hole would freak me out. Now before anyone wonders if my Doc isn't good, that isn't it. I tend to be weird and I'm not surprised this happened. Plus, for my summer job I wear steal bonded corsets and bodices for ten hours a day. I probably shifted the darn thing.

Mine is actually at the hospital, booked like a regular surgery. In fact, they cleared it with insurance all the way up to a full removal and new band put in. Talk about something freaking you out!

I am so ready to get tomorrow over with so I can move on and get my band working right! I have only had it since September and only have been able to get one fill so far.

I just had my port repositioned on Monday because it was Flipped. Mine was done just like the original surgery. I am still sore and will probably take it easy for the next few days. Piperboo how are you feeling the day after your surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
