My name is Kevin and I am a 48 y/o male living in Las Vegas and my Lap Band surgery is scheduled for 4 Feb 2011. I weigh around 325 lbs now, Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, and assoc other co-morbidities. I am retired military and have never been a "fat" guy until almost 5years ago. I am now very appreciative of what obese people have to put up with. Because of my diabetes I also got a very un-healthy dose of very painful nueropathy in both feet and ankles. Hurt like hell, the Lyrica I was put on helps a bit, but by no means does it take away all of the pain. Excercise has been limited, ok, some due to the pain, but most due to my own funk and depression with losing job during recession and all that entailed...horrible.

I now am looking forward to changing this part of my life and hopefully lose some of the "fat guy" stigma when I return to serious job hunting when I complete my schooling at the College of Southern Nevada. I hope to get to know some of you, and hopefully we can "share" our journey. By the way, I am a self confessed foodaholic! Love to cook and LOVE to eat...yes, not a great combo...

Hi Kevin,

My name is Deby and I just joined yesterday. I joined because I'm exploring Lap Band surgery. I have an initial consult with a doctor Jan 28th. I too am retired military. I retired in 1994 and steadily gained weight every year since then. I too love to cook and eat but this year is the year of change. I hope your surgery goes well. I'm looking forward to hearing how you do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
