And I am voluptuous and rubenesque (who am I kidding I'm fat)!! You can use all the terminology you want and it comes down to one thing. FAT. You can only call it what it is. For all those fat women that are oh so happy with their bodies, they are lying like rugs. No one is happy being fat.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you hated the word you wouldn't be here.

I agree with JuJu, the word makes you feel like a freak and we are far from that. IMHO we have an eating disorder / disease, a 'problem'. What other disorder/disease do they put Morbid in front of ?

The word morbid is not why I am here... the word HEALTHY is why I'm here.

That doesn't make sense to me. If you hated the word "morbid" used to describe your physical condition, you wouldn't be here at a place designed for those doing something to not be "morbid". Seems like the opposite would be true...

But I do agree 100% that very few who are fat is truly happy being that way. Maybe sumos.

I hate that word too. That's why I'm working on not being "morbid"! According to my son, I'm fluffy  On the other hand, I have a sister who is about 120lbs....hugging her is like hugging a bag of bones! So I'd like to be just right :)

I used to hate the term "morbidly obese," because I didn't like thinking of myself that way. Then, I learned to love the term, because it allowed me to have this great lapband surgery. It's a term, a medical term, that describes a condition of excess weight that can cause conditions leading to death. Take the emotion out of the term, and use it for your benefit. We tend to be emotional about all of this, and I sure understand that. But, while we are adjusting our attitudes toward food, we can also adjust our attitudes toward things that bother us and drive us toward food for comfort. Just my thoughts, and I wish you good health, Cindy

.....if I hadn't started to pay attention 2 years ago, to what the "MORBID" in "MORBID OBESITY" really meant, I probably wouldn't have been here THIS year.....

Realizing that I am morbidly obese is what finally drove home to me that if I don't do something, this condition will not only cheat me of a good life but will kill me much sooner than my peers.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
