Great find! Calcium Chews instead of huge Tablets

I've been having issues trying to get my Calcium additives in daily, because the chewable tablets I have are SO unpleasant. I need to eat four of these daily to meet the dosage, and it's rare that I manage to chew all of them without feeling like I'm eating chalk.

So yesterday I was at costco, and found their Kirkland brand calcium chews in a bag of 180 count, on sale for about $10.00. That alone was reason enough to give them a try, but then to find they each have 500mg(?) of Calcium per chew, they're chocolate, and best of all: They taste like Tootsie Rolls! Three a day will fill the need, and they are much easier to eat than those chalky tablets I bought.

Awesome!!!

Dave

My Dr recomended Viactiv... and they were pretty pricey so I found some at Target under their own brand at a reasonable price.... they also taste like tootsie rolls. :)

Congrats on your find.!

I don't care for Viactiv, tastes too mediciney to me and I don't want to spare the calories, I think it was 20each? So I just eat 2 Tums after each meal. My NUT said this will work. Calc carbonate just needs to be taken with a meal, calc citrate is more easily digested and can be taken on empty stomach. I drink milk and eat yogurt and cheese every day, so my 4 Tums are just supplemental.

Ohhhh yeah, the chews are sooooo much better!!! I had started out choking down... errr I mean taking Tums daily then I had a breakdown of sorts cuz I thought I HAD to take the nasty things the rest of my life  So I researched and found the chews (not listed in my bariatric guidelines, mind you)... but now I'm being told by my dietitian that with all the dairy I consume I may not have to take any additional supplement. They'll see my level with the next blood work...

I digress, but thanks Dave for bringing up that find, I know many others will appreciate it! :)

The CVS brand are good too, and less chewy than Tootsie Rolls, so easy to eat. Great price too, but I bet the Kirkland's beats it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
