Congrats on your BANDING!! I was given the rule of thumb to do 8oz in 30 minutes or at least 8 oz per hour by sipping. I'm so glad that you are feeling pretty good. You might want to try room temp Water as opposed to ice water. Some times the ice water can cause the gas pains to erupt. Sounds strange, but true for some of us anyhow. Anyway, I hope this helps you out.

It depends on how well you can take in liquid. My doctor told me 1-2oz every 30 minutes..I actually had a little 2oz shot glass that I would use all day...but even though you need alot of liquids my doctor told me that at first you do but not to worry if you can't get in 60oz. At first I had alot of discomfort and could barly drink 20 oz in a day...my doctor said 20oz was fine at first and I had no issues. You literally need drink all day throughout the day. If you can take in more than I would take as much as you feel comfortable taking in but just take it slow and sip. You will be fine!!

I also had a cup near my bed, and every time I woke up during the night I sipped from it. I had to go pee a lot, but it also helped to make me walk and thus helped get the gas out.

congrats on the banding!!

It took me probably 5 or 6 days to get up to 68 oz.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
