I almost took a swig of a beer today without thinking about my band. The reason I turned it down had nothing to do with my band, but I just didn't want it. My question is have any of you ever messed up and took a swig of a carbonated drink? If you did, what happened?

I am sipping on a diet pepsi right now! My dr. said a soda every now and again isn't going to kill me and I like it way too much to live without it forever. I don't drink the whole thing just a little bit now and then. I have heard from others that carbonation is forbidden forever by their doctors. It's funny how things differ so much from one dr to another. If I took a sip and realized my "boo boo" I'd probably just swallow it, one sip isn't going to hurt you too much in the long run. I'd just try to remember not to do it again.

Little sips don't bother me and my doc doesn't have a problem with them. If I make a mistake and take a big gulp...well let's just say I look like a rabid dog cuz it all comes fizzling right back up and out my mouth and nose...and if I'm lucky, it does it quickly because I can't breath until it clears.

I can see the headline now. Local woman suffocates on a Perrier.

If you ever want to try a beer or any carbonated beverage, you should pour it into a separate glass and let it sit for 5 mins. I shake my beer up little by little ( not crazy cause it fizzes of course). This will get rid of most of the carbonation. It has worked for me! Never had an issue with it.

I had sparking wine on new years, no problems. Definitely not something I intend to make a regular habit of, but will splurge for the ocassional "treat" :)

I havnt had a coke or anything carbonated since July 29th at 7pm...lol..it was my last coke before surgery...I used to LOVE drinking coke my whole family does....but aftr surgery I accepted I couldnt have it anymor...my doctor never really said absolutley no carbonation but I read alot of negative things about it with the band and the fact alot of doctors done allow it so I decided to remove it from my diet...I actually have been very surprised that as of today I havnt really missed it..I will look at a coke or a tall draft beer and think man I could drink that but if I take a sip of it, which I did a couple times...I dont want anymore..I dont know if I trained my brain or what...but when I do take a sip or two it feels weird going down and I can tell that it would not agree with me if I kept drinking it...anymore didnt mean to blabber on about it but long story short..Im trying not to do anything that could cause an issue with my band...maybe once Im a year out and lost more weight I might try it but since Im only 5 months out Im gonna play it safe...for now!

My surgeon does not allow any carbonated beverages for life... He said drinking it could cause the band to slip. So I haven't anything with carbonation for over a month now. My surgery was on 12-20-10. I would love to drink a coke again, but I know it's best not too so I'm going to steer clear of it. My family still drinks it and surprisingly it doesn't bother me to see them with it. I guess I've told myself enough times that I just can't have it anymore and have come to accept that.

I've had a few sips of diet coke in the almost 2 years I've been banded. Never caused me any pain or distention or slippage. I do not drink a whole soda nor do I take the sips very often.. maybe every 4 to 6 months I'll have a few swallows. It was almost a year before I had any after my surgery.

I don't drink soda anymore - my doc told me it was off limits so I just stopped and don't really miss it. When we got engaged however, my fiance had sparkling ice wine (he forgot about the carbonation) and I took a few sips and was fine. But I don't make it a habit.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
