Banded on December 29th

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm new to the site. I've got my band on Dec. 29th. I'm still in minor pain and wonder if its normal. I've had 2 C-sections and my gall bladder removed just a couple months before getting banded. Since my surgery I've only losed 11 lbs, is that normal? Or should I've been able to lose more than that? I've just started to do my walking but I feel like I may be able over doing it since I feel like I should of lost more weight by now.

Hi there. I'm new to this site as well and just got banded on the 29th. I have "only" lost 6.5 pounds and I am pretty happy about it. I have heard that the first month is about healing and not to expect a lot of weight loss especially since we are barely eating anything. Also I'm still a little sore but get really sore if I over do it. Give yourself some time. How are you doing with the diet? Congrats on the 11 pounds, that is great!!!

Thanks for the reply. Congrats to you too! I'm doing ok on the diet but I'm starting to feel hungry a little more. I go to the doctor Thursday so hopefully he gives me the ok to go to the next step.

My husband and I were each banded on Dec. 29th also. Our doctor had us on the clear liquid diet, plus the Optifast supplement for two weeks prior to banding. I lost 10 pounds prior. After the surgery, I wasn't sure how to tell if I was full, or if it was just surgical discomfort. Believe me, I can tell the difference now. Our doctor has us on Clear liquids (no Optifast) until tomorrow when we have our first post op visit. I have been very hungary, so I have tried a few creamed Soups. They taste delicious, but I have gained two pounds since I started doing that. I walk everyday (something I NEVER did before). My abdominal area is still quite sore, but just think, just two weeks ago, my insides will all moved around. So, I believe my feelings are normal. I think we all need to hang in there and stick with the program. The weight loss will come....maybe not as fast as we want...but it will happen! Good luck with your future weight loss. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi, I was banded on Dec 28th. I began a liquid diet about two weeks before that and since I have lost between 25 to 30 pounds. I know men tend to lose faster than women. I was a little discouraged because I haven't lost anything in the past week. As a matter of fact I gained a couple of pounds. I know... don't complain, I've lost a lot already. Hopefully I begin to lose again soon. I haven't been released to exercise yet, but that should help boost things. Good luck and God Bless.

Wow! I guess that's why I feel like I should have losted more weight by now. But as I read other people's experiences I realize not everyone did the 2 week liquid diet before being banded. My doctor would have liked me to do it but at the same time I was finally approve from my insurance in November and I pretty much begged my doctor to get me in before the end of the year since I pretty much met my "out of pocket" expenses. I will continue working on it....thanks for everyones replies!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
