I have to disagree with Misty. I think it should be understood that advice given is based on experience by a bandster. It is not a substitute for medical expertise. A lot of times I think people are looking for the comfort that they are not alone. Lets keep posts positive, negative ones are simply not helpfull.

Misty if all we had to do was search we would be on google. We come on here to talk about our OWN experience not what another bandster asked nine days ago. We want to talk about it and share our own personal experience. If you two let repeat posts on a forum bother you or annoy you, it's time to get a life.

I don't know if I would call myself a "Veteran Banster" since I am only 5 months post surgery; but I have also been reading this board for a year. It's not that I mind answering the same question multiple times. Actually I worry that people are tired of my responding and giving the same answers. If they don't mind reading my answers I don't mind them asking.

While I appreciate that some people have certain experiences; in general most people will have a "standardized" experience. You know the saying "Your milage may vary". It frustrating when someone who has isolated experiences post them as standard. I can say that post op I had discomfort from the port incision but other that no incision pain and no gas pain. But that is just my experience; I'm not going to tell people if you have pain or gas that there is a problem.

I think a group such as this is meant to offer a view of how differnet people are reacting to the surgery. It's not going to be all sunshine and roses; and prebansters want to know what they are getting themselves into (I did). I think is fine to post opinions but there is no reason to be mean spirited or concidencing.

We all want to hear from others....some have different stories. We are all going thru the same thing but have different results. Info is updated all the time. What works then might have a safer alternative now. And when people hurt we want to complain :P ...we want someone to listen and sometimes just that is comforting. We all have feelings but feel differently. Why let one last week say the same thing I want to say this week but now I can't?! I want to release it too! We all want to let go!.....and feel better.

I agree with everyone here that we don't need the negativity that some posters bring to this site. I was banded a little over a week ago and still have questions and was excited to find this site for support. fTF was also new at one point as well and I'm sure had similar concerns of her own. I too use my iPhone to navigate the site, and it is not easy to find old posts. If she doesn't like the questions, why keep coming back to the site?

Just as an FYI...I don't log into this board via my computer, I do it on my iPhone so I CAN'T search the forums as F2F suggests.

For those who ask repeat questions, I usually skip over them and move on. I'm here to learn and be built up, not beaten down for seeking the knowledge I lack.

nicely said!

O MMMM GGGGGG seems that since this has went on this long you all have no life. What ever I will help when I can, ignore when I want to, and I do have to say that I was not being mean when I said it. Seems maybe your bands have tightened your sense of humor too. Live on people it was just a statement.

I am happy to see these responses, I'm not the only one to find fluffy's responses to be very judgemental and caustic. I even went to her profile to see "what's up?" It's a support board, not an "I know it all board". I enjoy seeing people's successes and if I can I'll post an answer if I've been through something similar that someone is asking about. I agree with jboo, we're here to learn and be built up not get beaten down.

Fluffy, this is not the first post you've put up indicating your dissatisfaction with the poster's content. The fact is: new people will continue to come this board and will continue to post questions that have been asked before, whether you like it or not. If we wanted to just look up an answer without chatting we could go to any informational site, not a forum. Who wants to look up old posts within lapbandTALK when we can have interaction with current people today? If it bothers you so much you should find a new forum and stop bashing the rest of us who are new in this journey.

I agree. If you're not happy here, leave!

Not everyone has gas pain, shoulder pain, & runny noses:

After surgery I did not have gas pain, shoulder pain, or a runny nose. Every persons body is different. Think of child-birth... you hear about so many different stories about giving birth & the pain etc. etc. etc.

We only speculate on experience & sometimes by reading or from a family member's experience, but we are all different when it comes to (Surgery/Pain/Healing) the process is always different.

As my surgeon told me... "Doctor's can only tell you what MAY occur" not saying that it WILL occur......

Also, you have to find what works for YOU as far as being hungry..... I'm never hungry - as the Surgeon's Staff told me you may have to thicken your shakes or eat your small portions more frequent......

We are here to support one another & one million more (people) may ask the same questions, over & over again.

Ok Im going to break it as gently to the new folks as I can. YOU ARE GOING TO BE HUNGRY. If you are never hungry you would be skinny. Just because you get banded does not in any way shape or form take away your hunger. Even after fills you will be hungry. Your stomach is still there and when its empty you are going to be hungry. Over and over I see this post and it is just plain and simple you are going to be hungry. Please make a note of it. People wonder why old bandsters stop posting or leave the site its because everyone keeps asking the same questions over and over again. Your going to have gas, pain, hunger, shoulder pain, a runny nose, hiccups, gas may never go away. It is a diet forever forever forever. You can not eat whatever you want and lose weight just like with every single diet we all tried before the band. Who knows when you will get restriction. You may never but measure your food and know its enough. You dont need a whole plate of food to satisfy hunger. Write down every single thing you eat all day and drink drink drink.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
