Babyface 0 Posted December 31, 2005 Does anyone know if medicare pay for the Lap Band Surgery?
Alexandra 55 Posted December 31, 2005 Medicare does pay for banding if it's medically necessary. Once you find a surgeon and start the preoperative testing your doctor will be able to give you a very good assessment of whether you'll be covered.
coyotegirl 3 Posted January 1, 2006 I have Medicare and they paid for my banding. But there are others that have it and they did not cover it. I am not sure why They paid it for me but I thank God everyday that they did. Good luck
DrHekier 0 Posted January 2, 2006 Medicare, while a federal program, is handled by different regional carriers throughout the country who can set their own rules. My understanding is that beginning this year, Medicare will cover bariatric surgery for patients under 65, but not for those over 65 years old.
nanahanna 1 Posted January 5, 2006 Oooh! That sounds wonderful to me. I will be eligible in April or May for Medicare and I have comorbidities...diabetes, high blood pressure, a touch of asthma and psoriatic arthritis.
Spydr 0 Posted January 5, 2006 My surgery was covered by Medicare but like others said, things are different state to state. Call the doctors you are interested in and they can give you more info. For example, my doc takes Medicare but some times they pay and some times they don't. My fee was $2000 and if Medicare doesn't pay, that fee covers all costs. If Medicare does pay, that fee covers fills and aftercare for life. Not a bad deal!
