Disappointed & Pressured

Recommended Posts

I am new at "blogging" so I hope I get this right. I received my band in July 2010 and sad to say to date I have lost only 16 lbs. YUCK. As my title states I'm disappointed and feeling like a failure. I am the one putting the pressure and stress, this is not from family members or friends. I went in a week 1/2 ago to get a fill, the dr. was very disappointed in my lack of weight loss over the months following surgery and did not give me a fill but instead said I needed to see his nutrionist. Like all of you, I know the dos & don'ts of dieting (I have yo-yo'd for years). However, my weight is not coming off. I have been going to the gym at least 4x a week and have cut back on calories but apparently my fat luvs me and will not go away. Guess this is enough for now. I would appreciate any kind words - or unkind.....Thanks

This is a time when you have to be very honest with yourself. Are you really doing your part? Eating right and drinking your Water? Are you working out everyday or almost everyday? If you are not doing these things or are eating around the band it will not work for you until you are ready to follow the rules. It is never too late to start over.

Now if you are following the rules and doing everything you are suppose to, go see your Doctor and tell him you are doing your part and you want to know why it is not working. Ask him to do a floro to make sure your band is in the right spot and working right. If he just wants to blame you and you know in your heart your are doing the work make him do the tests to check what is wrong.

If you get nothing but blame go to another Doctor who is willing to help you!

Ever want to talk, private message me or e-mail me.

Hm - I have 2 views on this. I don't think doctors should guilt their patients. It is part of the cycle of compulsive overeating and isn't productive. So you should talk to your doc about that. Its good to have constructive criticism. But just making a patient feel bad is counterproductive.

As far as doing your part, the above poster is right. Its apparent that you must be cutting calories as you have lost. However, its easy to predict what you will lose based upon your calorie deficit. If you have a deficit of 3500 calories a week, you'll lose 1 pound a week. You can tweek that number via exercise and daily calorie intake. So if you're goal is to lose 2 pounds a week, arrange it so you'll have a 7000 calorie deficit and you will lose 2 pounds a week (if you weigh weekly, it won't be 2 pounds everytime since the scale fluctuates, but if you average your loss over a period of 6-8 weeks, it will come out roughly be 2 pounds a week). It sounds like right now you have a calorie deficit of 1700-1900 calories a week (if you're losing roughly 2 pounds a month). Eat fewer calories (track this on some place like fitday.com...you'll be surprised how much you're actually consuming) and exercise more and you'll lose weight.

If there are other factors (head issues, compulsive eating etc), its definitely worth it to talk to someone about it. I've found that the band doesn't help me with my head issues surrounding food - that's 100% on me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
