Am I on the right track

Recommended Posts

I was banded Dec 16. My weight before starting the preop diet was 240. On the day of surgery weight was 228. One week later at my first post-op visit I was 228.4. My doctor said that was good because he used over 6 pounds of fluids during surgery. I was told at that visit to eat anything I could smash with a fork for one week then move to solids. Today January 7 my weight is 220.3. I have my first fill on January 17. I am worried that I am not losing as much as I see others on this board. I am so afraid that I am going to be one of the people who does not lose even after being banded.

Hello-

we are sorta in the same boat I was banded 12/1 and I don't feel like I'm losing as much weight as others I see on LBT...I was 267 on my surgery day and now I'm 256 that's 11lbs :( I know I should be grateful for any loss BUT I was hoping for so much more. I know it's not a good thing to "compare" because everybody is dofferent but I just can't help it.

Good Luck to you on your journey and hope things start moving along faster for the both of us!:)

Thanks for the words of encouragement - have you had a fill? I am hoping that will get things going...I think I will cry if he says no fill

Before this thread gets out of hand, let me just say:

@djb: you lost 8 lbs in 2 WEEKS! That is fantastic AND way ahead of the curve. What are you talking about when you say "I am worried that I am not losing as much as I see others on this board. I am so afraid that I am going to be one of the people who does not lose even after being banded." YOU ARE LOSING WEIGHT. Also, if you pin your hopes and dreams on the success of others instead of yourself, you will spend the rest of your life hoping and dreaming instead of enjoying your personal success. Don't go there ... it's not good for you. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. Read more on the forum for the things to come (good and not so good). I repeat, knowledge is power when it comes to the band. Hurray for DJB!!

@morethanaprettyface: "I know I should be grateful for any loss BUT I was hoping for so much more. I know it's not a good thing to "compare" because everybody is dofferent but I just can't help it." Sure you can "help it" and you will if you want to succeed on this weight loss journey. This journey is soooo personal. Don't set yourself up, acknowledge that you are losing and keep moving foward. 11 lbs, great job!

You are both still healing from surgery. You will have PLENTY OF TIME to "work" your band. Give your body and your mind a break. This is a marathon, not a foot race.

Keep up the good work ladies! All the best to you on your jouneys.

~Fran

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
