Recovering from lapband removal

Recommended Posts

I had my band put in on July 8, 2008. It worked great and I was 100% free of heartburn until last year. Last year I got a violent stomach flu and threw up for the first time since getting my band in. I went back to my Dr and he did a barium swallow and said that the band had NOT slipped. He took all of the Fluid out. Still had heartburn and ended up with an endoscope. Still said band was in place. Well this week I went in to have my hiatel hernia repaired and the band replaced. There was so much scar tissue that he could not replace the band and YES, it had slipped. I am not getting ready to start the journey on gastric bypass.

So, did/do you have to go through the same process to get the gastric bypass (primary care approval/referral, etc.)

I had been getting gall stones pain about a year ago (i had no gall bladder, though). Turned out i had band dilation so they emptied it. I gained about 35 lbs back (UGH). Now, I'm starting to get that gall stones pain again (still no gall bladder :) ) and was told i may have a slipped band. I've been thinking about switching over to gastric bypass but don't want to have to go through the entire process again.

I hope all goes well with you. God Bless :)

I do have to go through the process all over again. I have a friend that also had problems with her lapband and she got a gastric bypass about 2 mos ago and she wishes she had gone with the gastric to start off with. I'm fine with that since my college classes start next week and I will be in school until April. I am going to try and lose weight until then, but if all else fails, then I am moving forward with the gastric. I am VERY glad that I had the lapband removed. The scar tissue was definitely not a good thing and would have gotten better. Had I known a 100% that my lapband would not be able to be replaced I would have gotten the tests and all of that done before having the lapband removed, but I guess everything happens for a reason. Good luck and if you need a weight loss buddy, let me know. :)

Do you happen to know what kind of tests are run to see if a band is slipped (although you said they couldn't tell if yours was)....?

I am going to see what happens with this band-thing. It makes me crazy! After I eat, especially in the evenings, i get this gall bladder pain. sometimes it's unbearable.

I would love a weight loss buddy! Private message me, if you can, and we can come up with a plan :) Or direct email me - AndreaRA93@gmail.com

I did a barium swallow and was told it was in place. I had an endoscope and was told my band was in place. It was only when I had surgery that they finally told me that it had slipped. It was VERY frustrating!
