1st fill after pregnancy

Hi all, happy new year.

I had my band done in Belgium under Dr Chris De Brunye, all went very well. At the time of surgery we didn't know I was about 4 weeks pregnant. So when we did find out at around 7 weeks I cancelled the fill I had planned. And I didn't have any fills at all.

Well, in November we had a beautiful healthy son and I'm now going to start my weight loss journey.

I have a 1st fill booked for this Sunday (there's a woman who comes to your home to do it, at a cost of £125).

But I am really nervous, probably over nothing but it worries me that my band won't work as it should - due to pregnancy and normal eating throughout.

I'm also unsure of what stage of weaning I should start on, do I need to start as if I am newly post surgery?

I don't suppose there's anyone else in a similar situation of being pregnant when newly banded and having 1st fill 9+months after surgery?

Thanks

I too I am in the same situation!! I had the surgery December 2008, found out I was pregnant in January 2009 and had my beautiful little girl in September 2009. Due to moving and money being tight, I just now decided to get my band fill after basically 2 years of having it with doing nothing in it!! So yesterday I had my first fill of 3 cc's. Not sure I notice a difference yet, and I'm worried I won't lose weight. I think my Dr. is being too conservative with my fills, but I can't convince him to do more. I am starting out at 300 lbs, and want to make it down to 250 lbs then try to conceive for our 2nd child, then after that child, I want to get down to at least 175 lbs. Nice to know someone else is in my position!!

Let me know how you are doing!

Tina

Hiya Tina,

3mls doesnt seem too bad to start with. I didnt get my fill last week, the lady couldnt make it but fingers crossed for this weekend! She said up to 4 ml for me so hopefully it will be 3-4ml. But I'm sure you will lose weight, it concerns me also but it'll all be ok, all we've done is delay things that's all, it should still all be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
