How long of a wait for surgery date?

Recommended Posts

I will be submitting my paperwork to the insurance company next week...then wait for approval (crossing fingers). How long after insurance approval are the surgery dates? ( i am aware they might be all different - depending on your surgeon, etc. but i am curious what everyone says)

I am self pay so maybe a little different? When I met my surgeon on 12/28 I got my date for 01/07. So i think it is just what is available. :)

They waited until I had met all the requirements to send in all my paperwork and I received my approval from BCBS in less than a week and half. It may have been 10 days. It's easier if everything is well documented and plus I had records verifying being Super Obese since High School even though they only needed the last 5 years lol! Just in case...

Next wednesday is my last PCP, everything else is completed and i already submitted everything to my surgeons office.

I also wrote an entire page of my diet history for the last 10 years. lol :)

I HOPE THIS GOES BY FAST! I think about the surgery all day every day and i started planning my life around the NEW SKINNY ME. ha ha

I was selfpay. Went the orientation meeting in August. At the end of October they gave me a surgery date of December 9. I imagine it may have taken longer if insurance was involved. My surgeons office is a Bariatric Center of Excellence so she might be busier than others.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
