Am I a whimp???

Recommended Posts

I am 15 days post op. Taught on Monday and Tuesday, was too wiped to work Wednesday, pulled 1/2 day of teaching today and am taking off the rest oftoday and tomorrow n I'm still very sore and tired.

I thought I'd be able to be back to normal by now and I feel like a wuss for having to ditch my students. How long was it before you felt like yourself again?

I am 15 days post op. Taught on Monday and Tuesday, was too wiped to work Wednesday, pulled 1/2 day of teaching today and am taking off the rest oftoday and tomorrow n I'm still very sore and tired.

I thought I'd be able to be back to normal by now and I feel like a wuss for having to ditch my students. How long was it before you felt like yourself again?

I had my surgery Dec 13th, I didn't work that week and took off the following Monday, even though I planned to go back that day. I returned to work the next day, Dec 21st, but only worked half days the 21st, 22nd and 23rd, we had off the 24th and a snow day the 27th, so I really took it easy getting back into things.

I have a desk job, and those half days were more than enough for me. I was happy to be out of the house, but I felt really tired. I had to keep getting up to walk around the office because my bra was rubbing against one of my incisions and I have a tendency to press my stomach against my desk so that was really irritating me. I was very uncomfortable for the most part sitting in my normal work position.

I have returned full time back to work and I'm still feeling a little tired but I noticed I'm feeling much better this week. My incisions are still a tad bothersome because of sitting at my desk but other than that I'm ok. Hang in there and don't push yourself, you are still healing, take as much time as you need to recover and remember everyone is different we all heal at different paces.

So I guess it's taken me about 3 weeks to start feeling more like myself. Hope you feel better soon!

I think everyone just heals at a different pace. I had surgery on monday & was back to work the following monday. Pain free? No, but not uncomfortable enough to go home. (desk job). Took me about 3 weeks before i could exercise on the elliptical. But i pushed that 2nd week to be moving, had too cause things were plying up at home. I swear the DH & kids do less when i'm home cause they see me & just assume i'll do it all. Other times they are a great help keeping things cleaned up...LOL Like i said though, that's me. You mentioned you were tired. Are you sure you are getting enough Protein & taking a Vitamin? It's hard to sleep at night too those first few weeks, i'm sure once that improves you'll be feeling better too.

Best wishes.

I'm making sure I'm getting all my Protein plus my Vitamins. I've been walking some - about 1.5 miles each day since Saturday. I did get a Rx from the doc to help me sleep. I'm hoping to be back to work full time by Monday.

Just glad to know that three weeks is more reasonable than two.

I don't think you're a wimp. I was in pretty strong pain for 2 weeks. (I blame the NP who refused to give me adequate post-op pain medication). By the end of 3 weeks it was lots lots better.

I remember telling my husband I had new sympathy for those who suffer from chronic pain, because I was so slow to recover.

You're not a wimp! I work from home and found myself taking afternoon naps and going to bed earlier. I think anytime your body goes through a trauma, like surgery, you just have to sleep it off. I also think that as we age our bodies take longer to heal and it takes longer to get back to normal. Give yourself a little longer to recover!

Some people feel back to normal very fast. For me is wasn't that easy. I didn't have much pain, but because I have FMS (fibromyalgia) along with CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) I had very bad fatigue for months after my band surgery. It did get better, but seemed like it took forever. I don't think you are a whimp. It just takes a little time to recover all the way. Just do your best with what you were told to eat and drink and take your vits. I'm sure you will feel better soon and you will be posting about how you have not felt this good in years!

I wan banded on 12/21, I went back the following week. I felt rundown and weak at work the first week back. I only worked half days. I went to work the following week and felt fine.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
