Work at a Kosher Delicatessen and can't get things right

Recommended Posts

So I was banded June 1st and have had 7 fills down 38lbs, have some restriction but still can eat a lot more than what doc recommends. My biggest complain is that I work at a delicatessen and I am surrounded by food all day long and can't stop picking on stuff. Although I am loosing I feel like I can loose a lot more. I try to eat healthy but can't get myself to do it everyday. Please any advice getting very discouraged? Should I start looking for another job? Thanks to all

It's drastic, but I do think it may be time to look for a new job. All that exposure to food isn't good for you. You may want to try chewing gum, but be carefull not to swallow it, that wouldnt be good for the band. Having healthy things you can snack on should also help. Good luck

Maybe, or just don't eat it!! I know it's hard, but you gotta make your eating conscious. Bring your lunch, or I'm sure at a deli you could make something healthy.

Congrats on losing 38lbs.. that's fantastic!!

The above suggestions are good 1) try chewing gum. I do this a LOT when I want to eat, but not hungry and it's not "feeding time". 2) looking for a non-food related job.

Another thing you might try is behavior modification. This helps to change your attitude and behaviors concerning a certain subject.. in this case, food.< /p>

A good book on this is "The Beck Diet Solution" by Judith Beck. It also has a workbook. If you read the book and do the exercises, it will help. I'll admit I have the book, have read it, but haven't done the exercises ..yet. But even just reading the book helps a little.

The name of the book is misleading.. it's not a diet, it's not even a book about dieting. It's about how to change your thinking and behavior.

Good luck!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will try to get a hold of the book and as far as bringing lunch to work I cannot bring any outside food for Kosher reasons but I do trust me I do try to eat healthy but it's the picking that's killing me. But I'll keep trying didn't do all this for nothing.

THANKS

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
