How do you know if your band is to tight?

Recommended Posts

I had lost 5 pounds and went for another fill, the doctor put in another cc for a total of 9 and a half cc in a 14 cc band. After this fill i noticed Water going down slowly, and every time i would take the first few bites i would feel pain when the food went down. I also got stuck more frequently after the fill. I am wondering if the band was too tight. I would like to hear from others who have had the same experience. How do you know if it is too much fill? Is it normal to feel pain when the food goes down, especially if the food is not chewed thoroughly? I did go back to the doctor and had the 1 cc removed, but i lost my restriction. However it does not hurt to swallow food anymore.

I went in today to get 1cc taken out. I started having issues about a week ago that when I would eat I had to burp at the same time. I had to try to let the food go down and the burp come out. I was not always successful and the food would come back up. I also has some pain when the food went down. I only had 3cc in the band from the day of the surgery. I have never had a fill but got the unfill today. I feel amazing although it's only been about 5 hours since it was taken out. I hope to feel better tomorrow but it made a world of difference. I pretty much had restriction since day one so lets see how it goes from here. Good luck on your journey.

I am 5 months post op and have had 0 weight loss. I went in for my 3rd fill since surgery and am experiencing the same things. Solid foods won't go down without pain and usually having to throw it back up. Burps and gurgles occur when I eat. But, is this where I'm supposed to be? I had a fellow bandster tell me "yes" on FB. If I don't lose weight this month at this month restriction, could it be that I'm probably the only person who's had Lap Band and not lost any weight??

if youv'e got reflux, vomiting or pain when you eat then you're probably a bit too tight BUT that doesnt neccessarily mean you may not be able to sneak up on that restriction again in smaller increments (having a 4cc older band, they can fill in increments as small as 0.1cc). if you dont have those classic symptoms of overtightness you may still suffer vague symptoms that take a while to realise - a tendency to choose slider foods as your body drives you to get calories in somehow, grazing rather than eating meals, eating but feeling unsatisifed if not physically hungry, even feeling weak and tired due to lack of calories, things like that.

Restriction really isnt something that brings you to a halt eating wise, it simply makes it easier to stop when satisifed and to resist inappopriate eating becuase you're not physically hungry. If you can "feel" a physical block there, then you're probably too tight. It doesnt limit you to 1000 calories a day or anything like that. I think every single one of us approaches it that way with the hope that there'll be no possibility of straying from the straight and narrow, I know I do as well, but really, that has to come from us and trying to find a level of restriction that makes that process automatic will usually end in being too tight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
