serious pain

Recommended Posts

Okay, first off, I was banded on December 13. Saturday night I was eating a pop sickle and started getting a horrible pain below my breasts. I started moving around thinking it would go away and it didn't. It actually go way worse. I was hurting under my breasts, into my chest, the middle of my back, and down my arm. I kept thinking it would go away and still only got worse, so I called my aunt who had also had lap band and asked her if she had experienced anything like that and she said she hadn't. SO, at that point I was hurting so bad I was sweating and nauseous. So, I called my mom to take my to the ER. On the way I called my doctor and he told me to take some Gas X and if that didn't work, then take some Pepto...well, before I could get back home, it was completely gone. I assumed it was crazy gas and went on about my business. Well, it happened again today. Not quite as bad, but it lasted the same amount of time, about 45 minutes. My question is, has anyone experienced this? It's kinda starting to freak me out.

I've never experienced that, but I would definitely discuss it with your doctor.

What were you doing/eating when it happened again today? Can you pin it to any certain food or activity?

Yes, do discuss it with your doc.

Interesting. We've been banded almost the same amount of time and I haven't had any gas issues like that at all. Do you know if they put any Fluid in your band at surgery time ? It could have just been a freak gas attack, but you should be free of gas by now, it's been over 3 weeks. I'd definitely talk with your doctor.

This may or may not be your situation but my Dr said for the first month or so avoid very cold food... because it may cause sharp gas pains. I was banded on 12/9 and haven't had a popsicle yet... but on week 3 I did have Water with ice (I was out with friends and just forgot) and I was uncomfortable for a few minutes after the first few sips. Hopefully it wsa just that but because of the sweating and nauseous you described I would let your Dr know!

My wife's a cardiac nurse, and from what you describe, I would strongly recommend you see your doc or a cardiologist to rule out any heart issues. Better safe than sorry! (Especially since it happened again - and I assume you weren't eating an Popsicle the second time!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
