Hi just curious if anyone had surgery in Ohio? I am going to be going to Dr. Lane. He is from Pennsylvania, but relocated to Bowling Green, Ohio. He is the doctor that did my husband's hernia surgery and we like him. He has done quite a few of the weight loss surgeries but I have not talked to him about that yet. My appointment is on January 11.

Thanks,

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I am actually in Toledo... are you still researching the surgery? I am scheduled with Dr. Duckett in Maumee for 1/09. His office does banding all the time. He has seminars once a month at St. Lukes. Let me know if you need any other info, or are you set on your doc?

Hi Michelle,

I had the surgery in Cleveland at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Shaurer was the doctor. He is really nice. Go to Clevelandclinic.com and you can see him and the section on weight loss. I just wanted to go somewhere I knew would be safe and had a good reputation. My insurance paid for it; but it did take about 6 months for approval. The weight loss department is fairly new there; but they are great. Good Luck. Do you live close to Cleveland? I live in Akron.

Glad to hear there are other Ohioans here. I am going to see Dr. Laine in Bowling Green. I am in Bowling Green. I found him by accident actually. My husband was in the ER about a month ago with what we thought was appendicitis. It turned out that it was a colon infection but they had a surgeon look at this test results to help determing the problem. They also "discovered" that he had a hernia, which my husband already knew. Long story short(er), my husband decided to have the hernia operated on. The surgeon in the ER that saw him did the surgery. When he went to the office before the surgery he saw that the Dr. did weightloss surgeries. He brought a flyer home for me, which got me reinterested in the lap band. I have an appointment to see the surgeon on January 11th. I hope to get more information on the whole process then. I am just so tired of being this big. I was a size 3 when I met my husband 11 1/2 years ago. Ten years of marriage and two c-sections later:eek:. I know the size 3 is definately gone but I would like to be a normal size. I don't like being embarassed when I see someone I knew in high school. Hopefully, the lap band will work for me!!

Thanks again,

Michelle

I had surgery in Ohio with Dr. Duckett and Dr. Oweiss. They are truly wonderful.

They have a monthly info seminar at St. Lukes in the Auditorium at 7:00 pm on the second monday every month.

You should check it out. They are considered the best in the area from what I found out during my research of the lap band.

Good Luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
