What are the signs of being to tight?

Recommended Posts

Well where should I start? With in the last 2 weeks I have noticed that I have to be very cautious of what I eat and have to eat even slower then I did before. I had my surgery on November 4th and have lost about 65lbs with no fill. I am eating small bites and chewing pretty well. With in the last 2 weeks or so I noticed when eating I have lots and lots of gas that wants to come up after taking a bite of food. I have to really wait between bites to be able to get the burps out so that the food doesn't come back up. I have been able to eat some food with success and some with no success. As far as liquids they go down but I still feel sometimes it may come back up but for the most it goes down.

I do have a digestive problem where I don't pass as much gas as most people but did not have this burping problem till a few weeks ago. When I went in for my last visit I met some guy who said after never having a fill for the first 4 months he had to go in to get a unfill. After the unfill he was ok and then was back the day I met him to get his first fill. That is the reason I think that maybe it may have gotten to tight. I do know that at this point I have 3cc in since surgery according to the doc. Let me know what your thoughts are.

Most people who are too tight experience a lot of PBing and sometimes acid reflux at night. Since you've lost 65lbs, it may be that your band adjusted a little. I would talk to your surgeon and ask for some advice. Something as small as a .2-.5cc unfill can change the world.

What exactly is PBing? Is that productive burping? If so why do they call it productive. Thanks for the reply Reverie.

Yes PB = productive. It's productive because it usually happens after taking too big of a bite and in the end the food usually comes back up because it isn't able to pass through the band.

Well that sounds like what I might have going on. Well I may have to call the doc to see what I can do about it. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
