JJLaw08 4 Posted January 5, 2011 I have noticed since I got my last fill that I don't eat Breakfast hardly ever. Some mornings I may cook an egg, but that is seldom. I have my tea in the morning and that is it. I may take a few Peanut Butter crackers to work to eat a little later, but most times I won't eat until lunch. Does anyone else do this? I know it isn't good for me to skip breakfast, but I just don't feel like eating in the mornings. I don't even want to drink a Protein Shake either. Any advice? zeniada 9 Posted January 5, 2011 I don't like breakfast either but I make sure that I at least have a Protein Shake if not food. there was a time when i couldnt eat breakfast as I was too tight in the mornings but after a slight unfill I can eat now. I would advise you to try and eat or drink something in the morning to help jump start your metabolism...
BusyMom1961 1 Posted January 5, 2011 My doctor told me if you aren't hungry don't eat. You won't hurt anything and you will eat when you are hungry. That was the best information I have received through this whole journey. I always thought that I needed to eat three meals a day, but the doctor told me that is not necessary at all. So, if I am not hungry in the morning - I don't eat. A glass of hot tea fills me up until lunch about 2:00. I eat dinner around 6:30 - 7:00 and I am done for the day. I feel great and am losing weight - the band is a great tool.
ElfiePoo 109 Posted January 5, 2011 I think it's one of those YMMV (your mileage may vary) situations. Studies show that people who skip breakfast actually eat more at other meals or throughout the day because they're either hungrier or 'mentally' they justify that it's ok to eat more later because they didn't eat breakfast. I believe there are also studies (vague recollection) that breakfast is the most important meal because it actually gets your metabolism going and gives the nutrients to the organs so they work more efficiently and promoting better weight loss. Personally, I eat at the same time every day and I eat whether or not I'm hungry because it keeps my blood sugar stable. . 1 Melissannde reacted to this
kll724 3,055 Posted January 5, 2011 I usually have a cup of coffee when I get up. I don't have anything to eat or a shake until later in the morning, anywhere between 9:30-11:00 depending what I am doing that day. lunch usually is around 2:00pm. And my dinner is around 6:00. My breakfast is usually a high Protein Shake or a poached egg and toast.
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted January 5, 2011 My band is always tight in the morning I usually have a shake to get something in. You may not want breakfast but just be careful not to over eat lunch and dinner

I have done a lot of research on how eating or not eating breakfast can alter your metabolism. As others have said, breakfast is very important for getting your metabolism started. Also, during the night your liver puts out glucose and eating will shut that off. It's good to eat only when you're hungry, but if you're not hungry and that means that you're going 15 hours or longer without eating, you do need to eat something - even if it's half of a Protein Shake. Over time, the less calories you eat, the more your body will think it's in starvation and your weight loss will eventually plateau.
Humming Bird 275 Posted January 5, 2011 I don't think any of these studies about breakfast include the lapband. It is a different ball game. A bandster with diabetes would be even a different ball game. We all have to find what is the right way for our own situation. There is no way I can eat anything solid for breakfast. I used to drink Protein shakes on the drive to work and I really need to start doing it again because I do not get enough Protein with the food I eat. There is no way I can "over eat" at lunch or dinner. My band simply will not allow it. Note to self : Start drinking your shakes again dummy! You do not get enough protein! JJLaw08 4 Posted January 5, 2011 Thank you for the replies. See the problem is I love breakfast. Even a couple months ago, I was eating a Protein Bar for breakfast, and before I had surgery, I loved eating Special K Cereal. I have always loved breakfast, but recently, I just have no desire to eat it. Nothing really tastes all that good anymore.
Southern Leo 0 Posted January 5, 2011 I know I need to have something or I will feel it a couple of hours later. Now if I'm in a hurry I will at least have a cup of yogurt. Maybe you will find something you love to eat now and you can use it for breakfast....esp if it has a decent amount of Protein to start you off. I felt that way a long time ago....I could do without brkfast and be fine. I didn't have time to take to have it. But I find I do much better when I have something. Thank you for the replies. honk 780 Posted January 5, 2011 I'm not a morning person so I have to wait an hour or so before I am ready to eat. That said I do have to eat at regular intervals because I am prone to low blood sugar. With or without the band I think your body needs breakfast. If you had dinner at 7:00 pm you are not going to have food in your pouch at 8:00 in the morning. I usually have a cup of Reg Coffe and then Chobani fat free with fruit yoghurt, half scoop vanilla Protein Powder, 2 ts flavorless Benefiber, Splendra, and about 10 g Kashi Go Lean added in. This makes me wonder if you are eating too late at night and therefore aren't hungry in the am. You don't have to eat breakfast food at breakfast time.. anything that appeals to you (well almost anything.. LOL) should be fine. I'm like Honk, I don't do mornings very well, so I get up and have coffee and take my Vitamins and become alive again. I fix my oatmeal the night before in my crockpot so it's ready for me and I don't have to think about it. Good luck on finding something you like.

I do sometimes eat something a little later at night. I eat supper around 5:30 or 6 so I may eat some popcorn or something at 7:30 or 8 so that is probably why I'm not hungry in the mornings. I hadn't thought about that being the case as to why I'm not hungry. Thank you!
JMinDallas 1 Posted January 5, 2011 Breakfast was my favorite meal, and all it was was a bowl of cereal! Since my last fill I really can't do a lot for breakfast. I decided on diet hot chocolate and that works really well for me. About 10:30 I eat a Protein bar, which usually takes me about 45 mins to an hr to finish. Then I'm good until about 1:30 for lunch. Before I'd get a headache if I didn't eat something for breakfast, but I guess we train our body to get used to certain things, and now I'm used to not eating breakfast. Cleo's Mom 257 Posted January 5, 2011 Was anyone told at their WLS orientation meeting/seminar that in order to lose weight your band would have to be so tight that you couldn't eat breakfast or only have liquids for that meal? I wonder how many would get the band if they were told this.
