YAY!

Recommended Posts

I am so pumped! I attended a seminar a few weeks ago. I had attended one before, but wasnt sure this was what I wanted. Regardless, after this past one, I was feeling that I definitely want to do this.

I went to my PCP and pretty much got a lecture on diet and exercise. I felt like a failure, there was no discussion of the lapband. It was about "if you cant change your lifestyle and lose weight on your own, then you cant change your lifestle, and therefore, you wont be successful with the lapband." *@!!!^*&!

I left feeling very depressed about it. She did review what she needed to review to make this my first visit, but she was very explicit in the fact that if I follow the routine she suggested, I would lose the weight and can therefore do it without the lapband. If i didnt follow it, then I wouldnt be able to follow it with the lapband either, therefore the lapband is not really an option. But she was willing to meet with me monthly! YAY! Those sound like some meetings I would look forward to each month. I dont think I could go through that lecture every month. It's been great, but no thank you!

Soooooooooo, I got a new doctor. I met with her yesterday. She was great. She felt this was a very viable option for me and that I was a great candidate for the surgery. We talked, I listened, she listened, and she was very understanding. We made a plan, and even though we talked about the need for diet and exercise, it was a very reasonable conversation that gave me hope. I felt like I had a team mate.

Soooo, I am pumped. She is going to help through this process. This may seem so trivial to so many, but I was seriously feeling so hopeless before yesterday.

Just had to share my news! I look forward to becoming a member of such a strong, dedicated and positive group of people. I hope to make getting on here a part of my routine. So, hopefully i will become familiar with people and vice versa.

Take care everyone!

Kelly

I am very happy for you. It's terrible when people burst your bubble huh. I have my appt. with my PCP next tuesday and I have to walk in there and convince her that I want this surgery. I really dont know what she will say. I am really hoping she wont react like your first doctor........i cant change doctors so easy. Just wanted to say that I am happy for you....must be exciting to be on your way. rolleyes.gif

If your doctor is not onboard, then I wish you were in a position to change doctors. It actually was perfect for me. My doctor for the past 10 years quit to be a stay at home mom. This was her replacement and it was the first time I had seen her, so I felt no loyalty really. Anyway, we just really werent on the same page or even in the same book. I know there may be other issues then loyalty that makes it hard to leave, so I wish you the best of luck. I hope it all works out!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
