Surgery was yesterday any advice for a 22 year old male?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just had the lapband yesterday and was wondering any helpful advice. The reason is i am 22 years old and a senior in college. wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and how to deal with it while in school and having roommates who do not eat as healthy. any advice would be great!

I'm 25, just make your own food, i always did in college, don't worry about them! I think this would of been a bonus in college, food is so much cheaper haha. I get 5 meals out of a package of ground meat.

Or if you have group dinners, just puree what they are eating, or eat just a little bit of it (obviously when you can eat)

I'm not your age but if people ask I just say I am on a doctor supervised diet. They can bite me if they dont like my answer.

Make your own food.

Eat slowly and stop as soon as you feel full.

Hit the gym. (Once your surgeon let's you)

Get regular fills.

Enjoy your new life!

lol ;)

To the OP, if you live off campus you may be able to control your food a little better than if you live on campus. I don't know what school you go to, but some schools are flexible with the type of meal plans they require and have flex dollars and all that type of stuff. I'm a commuter student but I eat at home. The campus meal plans at my school are very inflexible and the food options aren't that great. If you need more assistance, let us know. We will be happy to help you. Good luck with everything.

I'm 21 and a senior in college as well. Banded a week ago and starting to get anxious about returning to school and living with 6 girls that don't know I had this done. I'm feeling your pain and I'll let keep you posted if I find anything that works really well for me. :) goodluck!

It should be fine, you can find something anywhere to eat. Just eat much less of it. I'm sure even at the mess hall (or whatever they call it) they have Protein, and veggies...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
