Hi. I am brand new to this. I have decided over the last few months that I am ready to do the band. I am beyond ready.

I am 32. Currently 258 and 5'9. My BMI is not 40, but at my last physical found I have high cholesterol, and a slightly elevated blood sugar level although wasn't diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I do have a family history of diabetes. I have been overweight to some degree for my whole life. The only time I seem to be able to lose weight is while pregnant. I have 3 children 4, 3 and 8 months. Each time I lose weight and when I did gain, it was very minimal.

Since I have had all of the children I plan to have, this is the perfect time to do the surgery. Not sure where to start. Do I start with my PCP or with a surgeon? I have already mentioned it once to my PCP, but have not had any in depth conversations with her about it.

I have BCBS-SC. Does anyone else have this insurance? What was your experience?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
