HONEST-Post Op Diet Success

Recommended Posts

To be honest, I have had a few slip ups, and have eating a little real food, which includes some pretzels at work. I only today was supposed to start mushie/puree portion. (I hope you won't send me to lapband hell for that) So I hope I did not screw up to bad, and I was good today. I am going to try to be good for the next 2 weeks and not eat stuff I am not supposed to yet. It is just so hard, more so at work. I mean only 3 people know what I had done, so it is had to answer when I had a shake for lunch, why aren't I eating.

Wow, you really explained that perfectly. Feeling full in your chest, but not your stomach. Well at least not full like we are used to. My stomach feels "satisfied" while my chest feels full, for a few hours and then I'm pretty hungry again. I guess that's how it is for skinny people though!

Yeah, I got beat up on here when I talked honestly about my slip-ups and asked for help with motivation. (I got some positive support also). It does seem like so many people on here are able to stick to the rules almost perfectly.....however, I am not as good. I really want to stick to it and I do try, but it is a totally new way of living for me (us). I never stopped when "satisfied" and always had to feel like I was about to pop before I stopped eating. THAT was what full felt like to me. Now, to feel full in my chest is really weird and doesn't feel as satisfying. It's hard to get used to. We are trying to break habits that have been there for years and years. There's a lot of behavior modification that has to take place at the same time and we are all not going to be perfect right away. I think it's a learning process and I try to look at myself compared to MYSELF pre-surgery. I compare how much I used to eat to what I am eating now. It's MUCH less. I know my weight would be dropping much faster if I followed the rules very strictly. But we are all different and this is a journey that we have to figure out along the way. Good Luck. Do the best you can. You will succeed!!

Pushing your band's limit can be a slippery slope so be really careful. I suspect one stuck episode and you will stop pushing it.

I just tell people that I am on a strict doctor- supervised diet if they are nosy enough to ask!

You can do this. Stay strong!'

I too was bended on 12/29 - I am still on full liquids also and am sick of them. I have had a problem with not being able to get it all down. I get full so quick it seems to sit in my throat. I live in SE texas and also have a very strict doctor - but thats fine with me cause I heard he was one of the best. Keep me updated on your journey. my email address is Tina_seaton@yahoo.com.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
