Please pray for my daughter she is very ill. We spent all day at the hospital. She is throwing up (20 times)and passing out.First I gave her liquid medicine that I had It did not work then a suppository. It did not work and a trip to the doctor for a shot. It did not work. Up to the hospital for a IV.So far so good. They said it was really bad virus. Lysol the house and Pray that I do not get it. I worried I will mess up my band. Im still in my first month.I am wearing a face mask to.

That is just awful. I hope she gets better QUICK! My MIL and BIl have the same thing. I am staying far away (I'm not baded yet but have 3 little kids). That's one thing I worry about - having the band and the stomach flu at the same time.

Hey all, this worries me too. Let's face it, in the coming years, we are going to get the flu. So what are we supposed to do?

I vomited once from nausea (took some liquid pain meds...it didn't settle very well) at about 5? months post-op and vomit comes up just fine the old-fashioned way. Thank goodness it was only liquid with no food at all.

Ladysplenda, that's what I would recommend more than anything these next days just in case you get the bug. Eat liquids only. No soft anything, just full liquids. If it's going to come up...and it can...keep it as easy on your band as possible.

Disinfect the heck out of the bathrooms. Good luck. Hunker down, INCOMING!!!!! or is that "up-coming"? LOL Keep your sense of humor too. ((((hugs))))

I'm glad you are wearing a mask. What I do during flu season is standard operating procedure every year. I usu only disposable cups, use paper towels in the bathroom. I told everyone how many things get put into the air when they flush and guess what sits exposed on the bathroom counter(toothbrushes), so close the lid when you flush! Then, I sterilize dishes in the dishwasher, and the sick person is isolated as much as possible. I also tell everyone that this is only temporary insanity so bear with me and cooperate. As mom and primary caregiver to the sick, I keep way up on my fluids, eat something with Vitamin C everyday, and keep well rested. I am freaked out about the (possible) upcoming bird flu pandemic, and want to be able to practice good, if not crazy hygiene.

I asked my surgeon about that when I went in for my first appointment because someone here had asked that question. His response was to go to the ER for a anti nausea shot at the first hint of trouble and tell them why you need it.

My husband did not get the flu shot. I did. He got a terrible virus and then pneumonia. I got something but it was about 1/4 of what he had. I missed one day of work and still have a nasty cough - but nothing like what he had. I'm sure it's because I had the shot.

So, get it! Got it? Good!

Ladysplenda- call your family doctor and get an RX for anti nausea suppositories ( I know, ewwww...but- they work!) and keep them on hand. Or, do as gentlespirit suggested and go to the ER ASAP for a shot.

I once got the throw up flu and felt like i was going to throw up my band...I did throw up several times (with my head out the window rushing to the ER) and my band was fine.

Good luck, and I hope everyone in your house gets well

Megan

Gosh the exact same thing happened to me a fortnight ago - just a week out of surgery. I got home from a birthday party for my son's friend and Fraser came out of our ensuite and said he'd thrown up, disgusting, undigested hot dogs everywhere. I assumed he'd just overeaten, but I was cautious anyway and Doug did all the cleaning up. I followed him round with a can of Glen 20 (aerosol disinfectant). Anyway Fraser proceeded to get sicker, we realised we had a gastro bug, I didnt touch anything, Doug wore gloves, we went through bottles of bleach and cans of Glen 20, everything Fraser touched, I sprayed. Doug did all the washing, the whole works. All was fine Saturday, then on Sunday afternoon, Doug got sick, its a nightmare he's a huge baby when he's ill, Ewan followed on Monday.

On the saturday morning I went to the doctor and got a script for an antiemetic, when Doug came down with it on Sunday I started taking it, its a lot easier to avoid your kids than the husband you share a bed with. I had an awful weekend obsessing over whether I felt sick or not - in the end I just wanted to get the bloody bug and be done with it, a couple of hours of vomiting couldnt be any worse thank thinking you were going to, lol.

Anyhow, I did feel pretty crappy Monday and kept taking the pills, on Monday night I had a few hours of sweats and chills, my temp spiked at about 39 degrees C and felt a bit nauseous but never vomited. It's passed now thank goodness, I feel I did catch the bug but the pills worked for me. I've still got about 20 in the bottle, they dont expire for a couple of years so I'll take them definitely next time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
