rock and a hard place

Recommended Posts

I have just recently started this whole process and am waiting formy first appointment and ins approval. I am anxious to get started on my new me in the new year, but my BMI is only barely over 40. Ethically I am having a hard time with not starting, as well as being anxious to see some results, but I know if I lose just a few pouds I will probably not be approved by my insurance!!!! I feel like a hipocrite but after so many years of trying I know I need the help of the Lap-Band. Could this mean that I am mentally ready for this lab band journey lol???? Anyone else in the same predicament?

I was/still am in a similar situation as you. I have researched the band, know that it is the right thing for me. I have struggled with my weight for years and years. I have even decided that I will be a self pay if it has to come down to it. However, having insurance cover it would be ideal. My BMI was barely 40, actually closer to 38.5. It seemed ridiculous to me to have 5-10 lbs. decide on my insurance approval. So I drank a ton of Water before my first surgeon appointment, wore the heaviest pair of jeans and sweater I could find, left my keys and cell phone in my pocket (even took my hubby's phone), and was measured at a BMI 40 that is the weight that will be submitting. To my insurance. People may think this is unethical, but I am doing this to better my life.

Good luck to you! I will be keeping my fingers crossed fir you and me.

The FDA is soon lowering the requirement from 40 to 35. No need to feel guilty at all. Your taking control of your life and doing what is nessasary to improve your health.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
