david314 0 Posted January 3, 2011 I was banded in September and have not had a fill yet. I am eating virtually anything I want but things like steak still get stuck pretty easily, but only for 5 minutes or so. I have stopped losing and am wondering if I should get a fill. Also, I am very concerned that I may have stretched my pouch. I don't have any pain or discomfort, but am concerned because of the amount I am able to eat. Does anyone know how I would I know if I have ruined my pouch?
CheckYes 46 Posted January 3, 2011 Hi David, I would suggest you contact your surgeon for a fill. That's what the band is about. Sure, it's in there but it hasn't been turned on yet (to steal a phrase from another poster on this board). Turn it on and let it help you. Can I ask why you haven't had a fill yet? I thought most docs give a fill about six weeks after surgery.
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted January 3, 2011 I was a year post op before I had my first fill. If you have a good surgeon the only way he should be filling your band is 1 you are scrounging for food 2 your weight loss has stopped 3 if you can eat more than a normal portion. Steak may never be something you can eat its just the way it is with the band. I think your ready for a fill.

david314 0 Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks for your replies. I have not had a fill because my surgeon and I felt I was losing weight at the level we had hoped for (2 pounds per week), so we didn't feel a need for a fill. However, I believe it is time to "turn it on and let it help me." I am scrounging for food, my weight loss has stopped and I am eating more than I know I should. I believe it is going right through the opening...at least I hope it is. My greatest fear is stretching the pouch.
