I haven't slept in two days. I had my Surgery on the 12-29-10. I am fine during the day except it is so painful to swallow. How do I stop puking the volcano of white foam? Thanks!!!

I'm wondering if your doctor put Fluid in your band at the time of surgery. Seems like some people who have this problem swallowing already have fluid. Call your doctor and let them know what is going on.

The pain of swallowing maybe from the ET tube put in your throat for anesthesia, but you should NOT be vomiting post-op. Call your surgeon

Your throat is sore because of the tube they put down. If you are vomiting anything call your surgeon lap band patients should never vomit ever. It can make your band dislodge you are too new post op for it to adhere to your stomach

This happens to me on occasion when I've had a fill that is too tight and I've been vomiting liquids. I think this causes the stomach to swell and vomiting causes saliva to foam up in the stomach.

It happened to me about 1 week post op (smoothie was to blame) and then on two occasions after fills.

The best thing I've found for it is to let the stomach rest which meant that I didn't attempt to have any fluids for 12-15 hours as the foam needed to drain. If you're still having problems after that you need to go back to your doctor to have some Fluid removed from your band.

I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else so I don't think it's a common problem.

Hope this helps

I'd still call my doctor, even if it's just "coughing up", it's too soon after surgery for this to be going on. They have someone on call (or should have) for such issues. Very likely they can give you advice over the phone.

Take very good care of yourself post-op, don't try to macho it out. A little TLC now will pay off big in the long run.

The same thing happen to me, and I couldn't keep any Fluid down. I was constantly puking white foam. After two days of this the doctor told me to go to the emergency room, when he arrived he checked the band, there was 2cc of fluid left in the band during surgery. He was very upset because he says that his surgical staff always needs to check that the band is empty when they are placing the band. After he removed the 2ccs, I instantly felt better. The swelling and the 2cc's of fluid were causing to much restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
