When I was admitted to the hospital and they were getting my IV in and everything they put a scopalamne patch behind my ear. Anti nausea patch, also they had me take an antacid, not sure what kind it was but it tasted horrible. I did not get nauseas at all after surgery. I left the patch on for like 3 days I think. Though I found out that it messes with your eyesight. I am with you, I hate to throw up, and I have not yet, I am only 12 days out though. Hopefully I will try to remember always to chew chew chew my food, because I think I will be totally miserable if I ever get stuck.

I only took the pain meds for 3 days post op, and I only took them the third day because I got TOM and I got wicked cramps. Though at work yesterday I got really bad heart burn, not sure why. I had a hiatal hernia fixed during my surgery so I thought I would not get heart burn anymore, will have to remember to ask my surgeon when I go back.

But as for pain post op, it was not bad, it was only bad the first day and basically when I woke up, but the nurse was right there when I woke up and gave me Fentanyl (I beleive it was) right away and I fell right back asleep.

I was banded on 12/28/10 and consider myself very fortunate! I did not experience the gas pains that I had expected and was never nauseous. A patch was placed behind my ear prior to surgery as well as meds in my IV prior to and a pill called Emend that I took before hand with a tiny sip of Water. My Dr. takes all precautions to avoid nausea and I am glad he does. I also had a prescription that I had filled for nausea, but never used it. I only took a pain pill the first day and have not needed anything since. I did the Clear liquids for first 3 days and on day 4 had a smoothie and some cream of potato Soup. Could only get small amounts of them down, but I felt full and satisfied.

I have two friends who were banded on the 30th and both experienced terrible gas pains. One of them had the same Dr. as me so don't have a clue what the difference is. I really felt bad for them, but am glad I didn't have it!

Your experience will most likely be unique to you, but I wish you all the luck in the world.

The hospital I went to specializes in bariatric surgeries so they made very sure I did not get sick, put a patch behind my ear, put meds in the IV. When researching your doctor, you might look for doctors who are part of the "Centers for Excellence" and also ask about the facility's post-op care in regards to that.

I am one who threw up two times after surgery. That was with getting meds in my IV to prevent it too. I woke up in recovery and told the nurse I was going to throw up. Her response was, "no you're not, you don't have anything in your stomach to throw up" Well, I did and I knew it was coming. They gave me more meds right away and felt better after that. While up in my room I threw up again. More meds kept coming, and they had to send me home with a patch behind my ear. I was afraid of throwing up after the surgery because I didnt want my band to slip from the start. Just make sure you tell them you need a patch and meds in your iv during surgery. Best of Luck!

i told the Put to sleep doctor i get nausea when i wake up so they put plenty of good stuff in my slush so i would not get sick. my doctor also prescribed before surgery a anti nausea pill i had to take 3 hours prior to surgery and then made me take an alke seltzer tablet 15 minutes before surgery. i have not experienced any nausea yet. i am like you i hate throwing up and would do anything else to keep from it happening. just tell the doctors and they will take care of you. Good luck on your decision making. It is one that will change your life! God Speed!:D

Thank you again everyone that has taken the time to reply to my concern. You certainly have comforted me. I will be sure to ask for the anit nausea meds if I do go through with the surgery.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
