2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group

I forgot to drink my Water yesterday. Wondered why I felt so tired and out of sorts last night and through the night just had some major joint aches. It's amazing how dehydration can kick your butt...and how quickly! Lots to do today and I'm still just feeling wiped so hopefully, as I get hydrated again, I'll get my energy back!

Hope your day is starting off beautifully! I posted a "why people own dogs" video to my FB book. Every morning should start off with a laugh. :D

Have a good one!

I have been lurking on here for a while, but have never posted...

Cocoabean - are you sure the issue you are having is with the state of California? The reason I ask is that we had to get hospice care for my father in law a couple of years ago and the first hospice we contacted said he didn't even qualify for hospice (his doctor said he did and he was bed-ridden but since my husband could pick him up and carry him to a potty chair they said he could get out of bed and didn't qualify)...we ended up contacting another hospice who immediately signed him up and provided wonderful care for him until he passed away a week later. Until that time I thought that all hospices did things the same way...just a thought...

Now, I guess I should introduce myself...LOL...

My name is Vicky and I am a 45 year old mother of two boys (20 and 13). My DH, youngest son and I live in New Orleans (my oldest is in college in Atlanta) and I was banded on December 2, 2010. So far, I have lost 58 lbs (including the 10 lbs I lost during the pre-op diet). I have enjoyed reading all of your threads and look forward to participating...

Hi Vicky! Welcome to our humble thread!

I've seen your posts elsewhere.

I am not sure if it is California or the doctor or the hospice. I do know it is frustrating, and the doctor is suddenly reluctant to sign hospice orders. I also know that my MIL will not say what she wants and my SIL who has the most influence on her is grabbing at every last straw to keep her alive.

I also know this is one dysfunctional family.

I'm so sorry you are going through this...it's stressful enough to be dealing with a family member who is nearing the end of their life but to have to deal with all of the family drama makes it worse. I can definately relate to the dysfunctional family part...

Thank you. Add to it, I am a federal employee. Don't know if I will be coming to work on Monday. The highway to get home is closed right now due to a shooting in one spot, a crash in another.

New news...MIL said no to a proposed treatment by the doctor, multiple trips to a lymphedema clinic for her legs. She can barely get to the bathroom, but doc expects her to go on trips to a clinic 30 minutes from home. SIL cannot take her because she "works." Babysitting her grandchildren for her stay-at-home daughter-in-law. SIL expected that DH would take her, DH asked MIL if she wanted to go, she said..well, I don't really think so, do you think I should? So, he said it's up to you, if you don't want to, then no, you shouldn't.

SIL won't be pleased. DH told MIL that she needs to tell SIL she isn't going. DH told doc MIL said no. He said too bad, she could be helped by it. Yeah, and fall down the front steps and break a hip in the process, too. He's also said she'd be helped by every treatment he's prescribed that hasn't helped. I DO know he is fighting an uphill battle with someone whose body is failing.

So, as my mother often said...."Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

Elfie, the snacking is under control! yay!

Yeahhhh! Do you ever have those days when you kind of 'understand' why an anorexic does what they do? Seriously...when the rest of life seems to be spiraling 'out of control', this is one area where we can have absolute control if we choose.

So...I had my early morning visit with my primary care...who I love to death because she actually listens to me. I can print things off on the internet, take them in and say, "Look...this is what they have to say about dealing with..." and she'll actually take it and do some more research and either call me on the phone or talk to me about it at my next appointment.

I was telling her this morning that I was having one of my whiney days where I resented the fact that I can't have my fruit. Ok...it's hard, but I really can live without the grains and starches...but c'mon...fruit!? Anyway, we were talking about whether or not my insulin resistance will ever reverse itself to where my body can tolerate these things and she said most likely...over time, but still only in much more limited quantities than a person without this metabolic disorder.

The she said, "But I can tell you how you can resolve your insulin resistance much more quickly and it only involves one small change." Happily and hopefully I queried, "Yes??"

She gets this smug little grin on her face and says, "Exercise." (cuz I've been fighting her on starting a regular exercise program. :(

On the way out, she said, "You just have to ask yourself...how bad do you want that fruit?" <_<

Most days I really like her. Today wasn't the day.

Melody~It sounds like you have a great PCP (even if you don't like her advice ;) ). I am looking for a new one now and hope I can find one like yours.

Denise~Hang in there! I'm sure you are stressed to the max right now. I hope things get better...

I had a wonderful visit with my surgeon's office today (4 month post op). The PA who I see was over the moon at how well I am doing and told me that she would love for me to talk to some lap band patients who are struggling...I told her I would be happy to do it (I am glad to have the opportunity to pay it forward). As we were walking out of the room, we ran into my surgeon and she showed him my numbers and said I was the "model lap band patient". He looked at them, smiled and said "can we clone her?" This just made my day :D ...

Hellllo good people! I'm so sorry i haven't been around in awhile. I, um, have quite a bit going on. I found out a week and a half ago that I'm expecting #3!!!!!!! The kicker is, I'll be 10 weeks on Friday and I had NO idea lol!! Insane on so many levels. I called my surgeon's office to tell them and they said I would need to get some Fluid removed from my band, but the thing is even with 6 ccs in my 10 cc band, I am now all of a sudden able to eat 10 to 12 ounce portions. No pain, no repercussions, nothing! They told me I might not need any removed afterall, so I'm waiting to hear back! I'm still eating a LOT less than I used to in my old life and still eating healthy, but I do feel like a pig eating this much (even at my best restriction, I NEVER was a 4 to 6 ounce portion girl anyway).

In any event, I'm still kind of shocked, even after seeing the ultrasound last week, but I know it has to be meant to be (even though I'm almost starting over--have a 5 year old and a 7 year old- ARGH!)

Anyway, I think of you guys all the time and really hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for letting me share my big news with you all :-)

Hello Ladies...

Sorry I've been away again. Last week my house was broken into and this past weekend my dad passed away. Needless to say, I'm stressed to the max. I had a fill the night before the break in and definitely have restriction. All the stress gives me more!

In Daytona Beach (where I grew up) taking care of all the details of my dad's life. Grateful he passed peacefully and that my sisters and brother were there too.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer lately! I know things will get better!!

Deb

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
