2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group

Recommended Posts

I don't have the massive weight loss that some people are stating, but that could be because I am very bad at food tracking. Think I need to get back in the habit of that, at least for a little while. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones. Why do I feel guilty saying that?! Anyway, thanks for the welcome Elfie, your posts are the ones I tend to read on a regular basis! Thanks!!

Welcome to the thread Nicole :seeya: Congrats on getting banded and the weightloss so far.

I was lucky and my bandster hell wasn't really hell at all. It was just the last "diet" I was ever on.

Good morning, folks. It's a bitterly cold day here in the mid-west so I will blame that for my morning's brain ramble. For some reason I got to thinking about Punxatawney Phil and the whole if he sees his shadow, it's another 6 weeks of winter. If he doesn't, it's an early spring...and I think they made a wrong assumption this year. They're 'assuming' that spring will be early because Phil didn't see his shadow...but does that really count when there's so much snow on his 'door' that he doesn't even show his furry little face? Personally, I'm betting on a longer winter when he can't even be bothered to come out and yawn.

I've given up on LBT except for this thread and I'm not even doing a great job of keeping up with that lately.Reading everything yes but actually posting.................

I am happy to say that so far I have survived the horrible summer that Australia has had so far.Yes our garden has been flooded at least 4 times and all my plants and trees are dying off at a rapid rate but in comparison to the fires, cyclones and floods that have been happening in other parts of the country we are lucky.

Have had quite a tough week. My 16 year old son was diagnosed with an eye condition called Kerataconus in Dec. On Wed we went to see the specialist. He has been scheduled to have a procedure called corneal collagen crosslinking on his worst eye at the end of March. Apparently this does not fix things and won't improve his vision but it should stabilise his eye and hopefully will mean that he won't need a corneal implant in the future. It is a relatively new procedure and supposedly pretty safe but of course nothing is risk free. I think he is quietly terrified although he is doing a good job of keeping it all together at the moment. Just the thought of them doing anything to an eye gives me(and I think a lot of people) the creeps. Rather give me an op where i am knocked out and don't know what they are doing. He might be 16 and far taller than me but he is still my baby and always will be. The other downside is that the procedure is not covered by Medicare or private Health. You wonder sometimes why you bother paying for insurance.

It is our wedding anniversary on Sat so hubby and I made a last minute decision to get away for the weekend. We are going to a place called Warrnambool which is on the Great Ocean Road. Leaving my son home with his almost 22 year old sister who is recently finished uni and is looking for a job. Job hunting is really tough and demoralising. There is no human contact like there was in my day, everything seems to be done on the net. It is up to you to look for job ads, apply and hope that someone will decide they like your app! With thousands of job seekers out there and no recruitment agent working to place you it is not easy. She did have an interview on Monday and we are keeping our fingers crossed. It was a phone interview as the position is on an island on the Great Barrier Reef.

As to my weight it still seems to be pretty stable. Like Denise and a few others have said I also eat far more than most bandsters eat or claim to eat. I am also not very good at sticking with the 3 meals a day - I need a snack in the afternoon. I think my biggest weapon in this battle other than the band is weighing myself daily. It helps keep me honest and I know that if my weight is up I need to eat a bit better before it gets out of hand. You too often read about bandsters who have regained all or almost all of their weight - I am not going to be like that. I know that i have to do my part, that the band is not a magic wand. I am always going to want to eat chocolate and my band is not going to stop me , I need to make the conscious decision not to put it in my mouth (or at least not every day).

The other thing I did this week was go to a Zumba class. For all you newbies that don't know me I hate exercise and I don't do it routinely. I have done Bollywood and bellydancing in the past but have been a bit slack lately. The Zumba was great fun but more proof that i am totally unco. I struggle enough to get my feet doing the right thing never mind hands as well. 2 skills that I do not have that I would have loved are the ability to dance and to be able to sing! One thing I know I will never be doing is competing on Dancing with the Stars. I would be the first voted out!

Hope everyone there is well and that you haven't frozen solid yet. Hopefully it warms up soon and you have a good summer this year - something we missed out on.

Elcee,

Good to hear from you again, but sorry to hear about the troubles you're having! Good thoughts winging your way for your son's health!

I can sympathize with you over your daughter's job search. My son has been going through the same thing since he graduated from high school last June and I find the whole process so frustrating. He's spent hours filling out their online apps, because they no longer take them in person, having to refile every 3 months. When he finally did get an interview, it was a 30 minute interview on the phone! I just don't get it.

Have fun on your weekend getaway...and don't eat too much chocolate! ;)

Hey CIS. I'm a principal--let me know if I can assist...boy do they not teach young lot of stuff in school :D

Welcome Nicole.

Been busy at work. I went for my post-op check-up. I was right--I was unfilled at surgery! With that being said the swelling is gone--hunger is a beech! Lol I go back next week. He is putting 6cc back and then waiting a month to add the other 1cc to take me back to my 7cc. So needless to say, getting any type of restriction can take three months. Que sera sera--the weight loss I have had has been with zero restriction, so what's a few more months(that is my pep talk). Denise I eat way more than most bandsters. Trying to keep calories between 1200-1600

Elcee I love Zumba. Don't worry about coordination. Just keep moving. It helps to get the basic DVD that breaks down each move. I did that at home.

Thanks for all the welcomes. Truely a great thread.

I'm still able to eat a small meal and be satisfied for 4 hours. I don't feel the food like I used to, so I take it to mean that the swelling at least is gone. I still get a strange "side ache" if I slouch or twist the wrong way. Kind feels like I ran really far (as a kid, can't run 100 feet now) and you get that painful ache in your side. Only I wasn't running, just slouching. eh, it's better than that awful shoulder pain that is now gone (knocking furiously on my wooden desk!).

Today was interesting. Very stressful at work, but so much to do, I had not time to eat. So Breakfast was a banana, snack was some graham crackers (3 squares) that I let kind soften and melt before I swallowed, lunch was a small pouch of tuna with a tablespoon of mayo and one of relish. dinner was an issue. My husband wanted to go out to dinner. In my usual way, I said "don't worry about me, I'll figure it out". And I did. I did cave with the fried green Beans (my fav!) and had about 6 of them. Then for dinner I had a turkey burger, sans bun, with Tomato and ketchup and a side of brocolli. Not knowing what is in the turkey burger, it was probably bad. But my redeeming part is that it wasn't the sweet gooey ribs that I usually order or a juicy steak. I was surprised once again by the fact that I did not eat all before I got that satisfied feeling. maybe 3/4 of the turkey patty and all of the tomatoes and about 1/2 cup of the brocolli. My husband (who is still not "pro-band") keeps asking me "But are you satisfied? You didn't eat anything". Gah, I sure feel like I did. I'm done. Honest!

Glad to be home. Need to just relax and let the day at work go before I start it all up again tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great day!

Nicole

I have given up on LBT too, just this thread and one other and today they are no longer in my content, I had to search for them, sheesh....

I'm happy to see our new people.

Metime, Facebook is the same way, start complaining and everyone will want to talk about it. Also, I have a hard time eating at work sometimes so I keep Greek yogurts and Protein drinks cause I can always eat those to keep me from starving.

Shammah, Glad to hear you get your fill back next week, that will make it much easier on you.

Elcee, I hate to hear about your baby's eyes, its so much worse for them to have it than if you had to go through it. I'll be thinking about you.

Melody, Congrats on the 4 + 2 :D Send some of those Peanut Butter Cookies to Texas!

Jackie, Congrats on half way!

Welcome to everyone else! (Sorry if I missed you)

Well Elcee, your right about the weighing every day thing, I hadn't weighed in a couple of weeks and I was 138 on Tuesday when I weighed, 3 pounds over my high range. So back to being good for a week or so, I don't want to let it get out of hand., I cant afford new clothes...

For those of you who want to be friends on Facebook, here is my link Leigha's Facebook page and here is Sugarbaby's Facebook page. Sugarbaby is my puppy, she posts pictures and videos. This is my attempt to make Facebook a more positive place.

Leigha,

Sorry...peanut butter Cookies went to work with my husband and the locusts (his student workers) ate them all! I don't usually get bored (plenty to do but don't feel like doing any of it), but when I do, baking is where I go. Fortunately, there are any number of things I can bake that don't tempt me and anything with Peanut Butter is safe <BLECH>.

Keep those sugarbaby videos coming. I can't believe how big she's getting! I do have to say though that she still looks like you could strap a handle on her and use her as a dust mop.

Morning everyone! i love your quote Jackie about trying not to complain! I wrote that one down!

About 2 weeks ago I was down to approaching onderland & it had been atleast 2 years since I had been there, so I started to panic. I've been watching that show Heavy & on one episode the trainer talked about how you can be so scared of the unexpected and you tend to stay where you feel comfortable & that was me! For 2 weeks I managed to not lose any weight, and I had been losing atleast a lb a week since I got my band (in Nov). I really started dealing with WHY I sabatoge myself & what was going on with me mentally.. that's when I got on LBT & it's been so motivating to read everyone's posts!

I took control last week & I decided I was ready for whatever was to come with my weight loss & I'm happy to say I hit 199 last week! This week I woke up 4 days at 4:45 am & went to the gym before work. I have been working my butt off & was 197 this week when I weighed!!! I set a goal of 195 by the end of the month & I know if I keep it up, I will be there in no time!

I go see my Dr this week too and I'm not sure how that will go.. I feel like I could use a little fill, but I know I'm real close to my sweet spot & do NOT want to get too much. I'm going to talk to him about it & see what he thinks is best. Wish me luck!

I'm super motivated right now & so happy with my results. I love hearing people tell me they can tell & that I look great, it def puts a smile on my face :) I want to feel good again & I'm getting there, lb by lb!

HI EVERYONE! I JUST GOT BANDED 1/17 OF THIS YEAR. LOST TOTAL OF 30 LBS. SO FAR. GO FOR MY FIRST FILL ON TUESDAY. I DON'T FEEL LIKE I HAVE ANY RESTRICTION. I CAN EAT MOST ANYTHING. I ALSO GET HUNGRY 1 - 2 HRS. BEFORE NEXT MEALTIME. IT IS ALMOST LIKE DIETING STILL. DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD STILL BE THIS HARD? I AM DEF SCARED ABOUT GETTING MY FIRST FILL. WAS WONDERING WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE? I HAVE BEEN EXERCISING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AS I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA AND HYPOTHYROIDISM AS WELL. I FIND IT HARD TRYING TO GET IN ALL THE liquids I AM SUPPOSED TO BE DRINKING WHEN YOU HAVE TO WAIT 1 HR. AFTER MEALS AND 1/2 HR BEFORE MEALS TO DRINK. THIS MAKES IT HARD. BUT IT SURE IS NICE BEING 30 LBS. LIGHTER. JUST WISH THE WT. LOSS WOULD BE FASTER. TAKE CARE ALL. :)

Hi everyone!

Welcome Nicole, glad to have you here.

Ready4, welcome! Keep up the good work! One word of caution I give about setting a number goal by a certain date. If it doesn't happen, don't beat yourself up. Sometimes you can do EVERYTHING right and still not lose an ounce. It can be very frustrating, and annoying. Just ask ElfiePoo, right, Elfie? I've seen people set a goal of say 6 pounds lost in a month. It is reasonable, yes, but when they 'only' lose 5, they say they are a failure. NO, they are NOT. They lost 5 pounds!!!

Rosey, welcome to you, too. All you can do is what you can do. I understand fibro makes exercise hard...but just a short walk is a good start, when you are feeling well enough to do it. Your losses may be slower, but do your best. Is your thyroid being treated? If you are on replacment hormones and your levels are normal then you should not be hypo. (Your diagnosis is Hypothyroidism, but if treated properly then your thyroid is operating normally and should not be much of a factor in weight loss). If you are indeed still hypo, go see your doctor and get the dose adjusted. I have a very long history of thyroid problems.

Elcee, you've been on my mind a lot this week. Hope your son's surgery comes out well.

Shammah, does being unfilled make you appreciate your band? This is a serious question. Next Tuesday is my 3 year Bandiversary. I KNOW my band works and it works wonders. But things are just "normal" for me now. I often try to think back to my appetite pre-banding and I honestly cannot remember. It is as though I have always been like this.

Leigha, nice to have you back after your taxes...was afraid you might have gone to jail when you were done cheating on them!

Sorry I've been MIA lately. MIL is slowly deteriorating. DH and I have been doing a lot of talking in the evenings, and I don't want to be rude by being on the computer. He needs me right now.

He has 3 siblings. His brother who supports his arguments for her care lives in Las Vegas. They believe she should be moved to hospice care and accept the inevitable in as much comfort as medical science can provide. Her PCP is in agreement and spoke at length about it at her appointment yesterday. His two sisters who are local feel that the doctors should be able to cure her and don't accept that she is in her final days. Mom is in agreement with the sisters. So unless something the doctor said sinks in, she'll keep getting rushed to the hospital to fix things that cannot be truly fixed.

One of his sisters normally comes to appointments with him, but yesterday she could not. The other will not go, why I do not know she doesn't work, but demands that we tell the doctor that he, "needs to address this issue and that issue." Uh, no...he needs to address what he considers the priority. She has a vested interest in Mom staying alive as she lives in the second house on the lot for $250.00 a month. The other sister is about to lose her house and is considering moving in with Mom. DH said she might reconsider that as she will most likely have to move right back out if Mom passes. She says why? With my share I can stay...... Huh? What? yes, you have a quarter interest in the property, so what. You've bailed on 2 (yes TWO) mortgages in the last year, DO YOU THINK YOU WILL GET A LOAN to buy the other three out????

The sister in the back was pissed about 6 months ago when BIL told her she'd not be able to stay in the back house when Mom passes. So was Mom, she cannot fathom that the boys will not take care of the girls. Different generation, I guess. Mom's own instructions are for the property to be divided 4 ways. Unless she changed something, and we don't know. But she generally asks DH about stuff like that.

The good news? I am not overeating! Woot woot!!!

Rosey: Welcome to the thread.

Shammah: Hey, when Hilda isn't at her sweet spot, I figure no gain is a bonus because the hunger is constant and I'm white knuckling it most of the time. So a big pat on the back to you for no gain!

MeTime: Glad to hear your shoulder pain is gone. Good for you for making good choices when you went out to eat...and a steak wouldn't have been bad by the way.

Elcee: I hope you're having a wonderful time this weekend!

Denise: Congrats on not eating with all that stress around you! Life sounds like a soap opera!

Nothing to update around here. I'm into my usual February blahs. Too late to do this year, but I told my husband we need to plan a two week February vacation to visit my son and his wife in Florida every year. Spend a week with them and a week just traveling around the southern part of the state...where it's warm!

I'm only weighing myself once a week since it's too frustrating to see the daily ups and downs, but it should be interesting tomorrow since I've not been eating enough this week and I know it. The 'blah' extends to everything. It doesn't help that I haven't been able to do Tae Bo for the last few days. The pain in my left shoulder is a constant since I got my last fill and I think it's affecting how I stand, sit and lie down because I've had a constant headache and my neck into my shoulders is getting stiffer. The heating pad and hot shower helps but I'd kill for a hot tub!

C'mon spring!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
