2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group

Recommended Posts

Welcome Deb, 2beskinny, counselor, and all other new bandsters to the thread.

Went for pre-op--small, funny shock happened. For years I have been thinking I was 5'5--lo and behold I am 5'3." My ticker, BMI, has been all wrong--no wonder my 6'5" husband always felt so much taller--I just thought he was taller than he thought

Leigha--good job on losing weight. Thanks. I have got to search to see if after port revision you do liquids--I would assume so, but how long. I meant to ask the surgeon.

Melody--hang in there. I just cannot figure out what to do--I am getting 1200-1600 calories in before exercise and scale remains unmoved this week. I was doing 60 grams of carbs--going down to 30lbs--I know 60lbs was too dang many.

I feel all worn out and used up.....ugh

I've been swamped at work all week with a busy patient schedule and closing down one office while moving supplies, instruments, patient charts and everything else to another office ...... writing letters....calling patients.......

working on my day off....... I just want to curl up and sleep for a few days.....

I have more of the same happening Monday.... I'm getting too old for this crap.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome Councilor!

It has been a crazy week! My two managers have temporarily (4 months) traded positions for a learning opportunity. So, I have been helping with getting that all sorted out. Due to all the rain we've had many FAA facilities and equipment were severely damaged. So, the manager who has never been a field manager before has had a baptism by fire...well, Water as it were.

I downloaded an app on ipad called "lose it" to track foods and exercise (ha!). I was curious how many calories I've been ingesting. I was up a few pounds from all the egg nog. laugh.gif

So, I tracked a couple of days' worth. I thought I was eating about 1400 calories a day. Turns out to be 1700! Yikes! But I've lost the egg nog pounds. Like Elcee, I wonder what I could do if I put my mind to it--even a little bit.

A friend of mine who lives a distance away had GBP in July. She's down 66 lbs. I asked her to send me a pic. So I get this picture mail of her feet on a scale!!! Too funny.

Denise: Nothing takes the place of actually tracking what we eat, eh? When I first had my surgery a year ago, I planned on not doing all the traditional 'diet' things because that's why I got the surgery. Well, you know, when you're trying to 'lose' (at least for me) I still have to diet and that took me almost a year to understand. There's just not a whole lot of difference in the calories needed to maintain my current weight versus those needed to maintain a weight of 140, and in order to shed the pounds it requires *consistently* eating less than I currently need. If I only stick to that diet for half the days of the month and eat what my current body weight needs to maintain the rest of the days, then it stands to reason I'd only lose a pound or so during that month...or stall because some days I'm eating more than my current maintenance needs.

Shad: See above. At one point I was eating 1100-1500 and found I have to stick consistently at 1200 if I want to see those scales move consistently downward. I'm still working on that. I got lazy over the holidays and now it's harder to get strictly on track. :( Right now my weight is just stalled but I know why.

HB: Ugh...you have my sympathy. I downsized my business last August and have been in the process of cleaning out a warehouse, moving the things we're keeping into the pole barn and trying to organize everything else for a warehouse sale. Now that it's cold I just can't get motivated and there's no 'push' to do so since the building hasn't sold yet.

Morning everyone. So ok, this first week of January has not been as focused as I'd like. I'm not eating the holiday junk anymore and I've been very good at avoiding sugar and wheat but still having a hard time dropping those calories to 1200. My husband mentioned that I seemed to be 'hungrier' so I've been paying attention to that for the last 4 days or so and he was right. So time for a small fill on Tuesday. Hopefully they can get me in when I call on Monday. In the meantime, I'm going to try and drink hot broth whenever I get hungry.

I'm still doing Tae Bo every day and enjoying it. Still can't keep up with him but at least I'm moving!

Hi all...Welcome new people :) I really need to get my butt in gear! I just keep playing with these 2lbs...gain them...lose them...gain them...lose them. I am sick of it, but it is definitly all my fault. Heck I went for 6 weeks with no Fluid in my band and managed to LOSE weight, but bring on the Christmas Cookies and now I am wrestling with the lbs. It seems like everytime I eat now, my body immediatly wants something sweet when I am done. I need to break this nasty grazing habit. I think I also need a fill too, but don't have one scheduled until Feb 14th (they want to move really slow because of the slip). Right around Christmas, I was thinking I possibly was too tight because I had a few PB's, but it just turns out that after the unfill and recent refill TOM is back with a vengence on Anthony. Now that TOM is gone, I am hungry and able to eat (too much). School starts in 1 more week, and not a moment too soon because I hate my job  . I really was wishing to be the Mega Millions winner lol. Any suggestions for a headache that just won't go/stay away? I got a bad Migraine over a week ago, and ever since that day I have had a headache each and everyday. It normally starts about 2:30pm and it's causing havoc with my exercise too because by the evening my head is pounding and exercise gets pushed aside. It's right in the center of my face. Right above my nose and around my eyes. I'm a little stuffed up, but not much so I don't think it's sinuses. I just wish it would go away and stay away. I hate popping tylenol everyday!

It's amazing how much there is to catch up on when you haven't visited this thread for a while. I promise I have been reading everything even though I haven't commented.

Elfie - sorry to hear about your friend, that is awful. If you ever find out what the cause was please let us know.

I am not back at work yet. One of the downsides to being casual is that work can be pretty scarce - of course the upside to that is you get plenty of leisure time. I tend to train a lot of teachers and do courses at local community houses and as none of those go back until Feb that means things are extra quiet. I do have a lady coming to my house on Sat for a CPR update - not normal to do it that way but my boss asked if I could accomodate her.

Am currently wearing a 24hr BP and Holter monitor. My BP started doing weird things again a couple of months back so my gynae postponed my planned hysterectomy and sent me off to a cardiologist. He is running checks to make sure everything is OK. Of course the wait to see each specialist and then to book each test can take weeks/months. Apparently it is not normal to have both monitors on at the same time. I even got called brave for doing it this way at the consultants which is ridiculous. I figure if I have to be uncomfortable I may as well be doubly uncomfortable for 24 hrs rather than have to do it for 48.It's actually not that bad(seems to have improved since I last had it done about 4 years ago) but it could be interesting trying to sleep and trying to get changed. I did manage to figure out how to get my jeans down to go to the loo which was a feat in itself.........

Miserable weather here today, wet and rainy. Driving into town earlier I had a hairy moment when a truck went past me at top speed splashing up so much Water I couldn't see to drive straight. We went and bought a heap of new plants yesterday to replace the ones which died as they were so waterlogged - hopefully the new ones don't suffer the same fate. However I am going to try not to complain - i could be living in Queensland and have my house inundated with dirty smally water(and snakes). One of the rivers up there is now predicted to peak at 14metres plus. That is scary.

Stepped on the scales today and they said 52kg. NOT HAPPY. I think it may have been what I drank on Saturday rather than what I ate. Someone had to finish the opened bottles of champagne and wine that have been sitting in the fridge.I did phone this morning to make an appointment for a fill on Friday, something I have been putting off. I keep telling myself I just need better control but at the moment I can eat almost anything, fairly quickly and in much bigger quantities. I am also getting hungry way too quickly. I had lunch and was hungry again an hour later. I go away for a week on 24th which was part of the reason i was putting it off but hopefully I should be OK by then. My hubby has now decided he needs to lose some weight as well. He is not hugely overweight, probably needs to lose about 5 - 10kg. But it is all round his stomach - I suppose it's a classic beer belly but in photo's he looks pregnant!

It will be good for him to be cutting back for a change.

Good Morning,

Today starts another week of hell at work, but it can only get better from here..... right?

Elcee, I always think of you bandsters down under when I hear of all the rain and flooding down there. It's snow and slick roads for me today. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to drive on winding mountain roads in it. Oh well, it's the price I have to pay if I want to live in the mountians.

Has anyone seen Bob around? I guess I'll send him a PM and see if I get him to pop in on the new thread.

Hi Everyone,

My New Year's Resolution to not get stuck lasted 8 2/3 days. shake and bake chicken thighs and a salad did me in last night! angry.gif It was a doozy, too.

Elcee, what is your BP doing? Mine likes to drop unexpectedly. My doctor says he sees it in his weight-loss patients, not just surgical patients, but those who've lost significant amounts. I did the holter thing, but it would not drop. I seem to do it after standing for a prolonged period of time.

Stacie, I had a headache all last week. I think it was sinuses. Yours sounds like sinus to me, based on the location. But mine will often start as sinus that triggers a migraine...just lovely!

Anyway, not much new in my world. We are finally drying out here!

Hi Everyone,

Sounds like everyone is off and running into this new year...myself included. Not much news for me...been fighting with the same 2 pounds all week. It's weird. I'll lose consistently for several days and then bam! It just stops. I think my body is not wanted to give it up...I'm just ready to hit the fifty pound mark. Only three to go!

I hope you are all doing well and staying warm or dry where ever you may be.

Deb

Elcee: I did find out that the cause of death (from the friend who had band surgery) was due to a blood clot. Hey, you want I should ship you a snorkel and swim fins? Aussie friends have been sending me pics of their lakes...I mean back yards. Pretty impressive!

Stacey: Headaches...several remedies using pressure points. I was about ready to go into this long detailed explanation and went searching on the web to see if I could find a picture of the one in the hand when I found a link that lists them. Saves me some typing. Check this out. I've used most of these successfully.

HB: I only see Bob on Facebook these days.

Deb & Denise: {waving}

Been a long few days at work. Was hoping for a snow day, but no such luck :(

Been very tight for the last week. Lots of PB. But lost 10 pounds. I seem to go through tight and loose times throughout the month. Now though, I am "normal" again, maybe even a little looser than I would like... Ate a little more than I would have liked at dinner and already am hungry 2 hours later.

I'm not sure why I get tighter and looser like this... anyone else experience this?

I used to track every morsel (pre band) but haven't since being banded. I do have a bodybugg and have toyed around with logging my intake again, just out of curiousity. When I "wing" it in my head, I estimate I'm around 800-1000 calories a day. I think next week (for some reason, I can only start something new on a Monday) I will log my intake. Thing is, my doctor has never given me a caloric goal, only volume and time of hunger factor. But we'll see.

Hope everyone's week is going well!

Counselor, I always just wing it, but I know many bandsters do very well with tracking everything. It sure wouldn't hurt to keep track for at least a couple weeks to see where you're at. It sounds like the band is working for you. I don't know about the tightness changes because mine stays pretty much the same except for the tightness in the morning. Some gals have tightness around that time of the month. ( I have not had TOM in many years, so don't know about that)

Good Morning, (at least I hope it will be good)

I thought it couldn't get any worse with all the job changes and moving most of the stuff from one office to another. Well, it got worse. The existing office we are staying at, but moving the other equipment and patients to, was broken in to. The thugs stole a bunch of expensive stuff and made a mess of the office.

They also took a bunch of stuff that will have no value to them. It was clear they know nothing about dentistry because they took some stupid stuff and left things of great value. The stupid thugs took our shoes! The Dr. got us all expensive matching very flashy Nike shoes for Christmas. They had our names on them and the name of the office. We all wear different scrubs, so he thought it would be cool if we all wore the same bright flashy shoes. It just sucks that at the same time we had all been working so hard to combine 2 offices we have to deal with something like this. What a mess.

Counselor: When you say you're hungry 2 hours after you eat...how much are you eating? If 1/2 cup, as so many seem to be doing, that's pretty normal IMO. If it's a reasonable meal (e.g. 3 oz Protein, 1/2 cup vegies and maybe 1/4 cup starch), then it sounds like you might need a fill. I'm not sure what causes the band to get tight and then loose again, but I've found that drinking hot tea or coffee helps. I start each meal by drinking a hot cup of tea or coffee about 15 minutes before I eat and that seems to help with the tightness issue. There was a time when some foods got stuck even before my sweet spot (eggs, bread, protein). Now nothing does so perhaps the band gets more 'flexible' with time? Dunno.

HB: What a royal PITA to have to deal with when you're already stressed enough just with all the moving. Take a deep breath and remember, it's inevitable that karma will come back and bite them in the butt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
