Why do you have a scar???

Recommended Posts

I have been asked about my scar. What is that from? I don't like telling people about my surgery until I am ready for them to know, so what can I say when someone (especially opposite sex) wants to know about my scar? Any suggestions?

"I had my gall bladder removed. Ouch! I'm fine now, though." Just make sure you know about gall bladder problems, in case someone wants to share a war story or two...gall bladders can be removed laporoscopically in a similar procedure.

Uhm, just say you had surgery. I wouldn't ever lie about something as minor as surgery. I mean, what happens if you actually need to have your gallbladder out after you told someone you had it out? Talk about awkward!

And, well, if you are not comfortable talking about something minor, like surgery, how can you be comfortable naked with anyone?

If you must tell a lie, make it completely outrageous. Like you had to have your alien implants removed, or you had alien implants put in. Tell the truth, that you are now the bionic woman. (or man)

I think you should just say, "Oh, I had to have surgery, something minor" and change the subject. Most people will get that you don't want to give them details and leave it alone. And if someone presses, then say, "I don't really like to talk about it".

On the other hand, people who know I had the surgery want to know why there are 5 incisions (some friends couldn't wait to see the scars - weird, I know). So what...2 for instruments, 1 for light/camera thingy, ? Who can tell me their 'official' function?

I believe, (may not be right)

2 are for instruments

1 is for the port

1 is for the camera

and the last one is for the liver retractor

Just tell them you got shot 5 times....okay maybe not a good answer. I guess it depends on who they are and how comfortable you are with them. Some people understand weighloss surgery and what it means to someone who has tried everything else under the sun. Then there are those who think it is cheating or the easy way out. Nothing is ever easy. As they say the truth will eventually come out. JMHO

I'd be tempted to say that it's none of your d$%* business! I swear, people are so rude. I have twins and the first thing most people ask me is whether or not I took fertility. I have started telling people that I can't believe they would ask such a rude question. They should be embarressed, not me. Or, you could tell them you had surgery and then ask to see their scars so you can question them!

There are many surgeries that look like the lap band, and when I showed my sister my cuts, her first reaction was to lift her shirt and say when did you get your gallbladder out, and I said I didn't. I was shocked to see the identical cuts on her! Then I mentioned the lap band, and she was surprised too! My Dr. said in my post op visit that I couldn't exercise except for walking. I asked why since I was feeling so good and he said to just think of yourself as having had a knife fight and surviving.

Maybe you can say "I was in a rumble and My opponent had 2 knives against my one. Let them chew on that one.:) "

Um... that's assuming your "you know whats" are higher than the scars.

:P

You're a young thing, aren't you?

hahaha, I am literally rolling on the floor right now! too funny. anyways, saggy or perky - i find men like them any which way,, and when they have a naked women the last thing they're thinking about is the scars.

As far as the gallbladder - you dont have to say you had anything taken out - you could say it was "exploratory laproscopic surgery".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
