please help, banded yesterday

Recommended Posts

I got my band yesterday Yeah!!! I feel terrible today. Yesterday I had so much chest pain from the air they pumped into my stomach. That was better this morning, in fact I felt good this morning. Now I am having so much pressure in my chest and painful burping. I have resting in bed a lot today. Maybe I just need to move around more? I have had some broth, some Water, some strawberry juice, some Jello and thats about it today. Please let me know if this is normal. I am nervous. thanks so much for any replys.

Hi Minniemay,

Yep, you're normal! You're healing from surgery and this is definitely going to take a few days. The gas they used during surgery can indeed cause pains in various places even after several days or a week, so don't be alarmed. Moving around can help, especially walking, but don't overtax yourself too soon. Rest is good!

Welcome to bandland, and know that from here on out you will feel MUCH better day by day. Congratulations!

it can be normal. if you feel like it is not you need to call your surgeon right away. It is better to ask your surgeon and know for sure rather than risk having a problem and not having it taken care of in the correct manner and hurting yourself. no amount of advise here will replace the advise your surgeon can give you. and no, i am sure your surgeon will not be annoyed at your calling and asking.

best of luck.

Totally normal!! Walk as much as you can, but don't stray to far from a place where you can lie back down if you need to. The first two days after my surgery I could only walk to the bathroom and back. I did it hourly whether I had to pee or not. You will feel better in a few days!

I really think walking as much as you can and getting up and around helps. I felt that way to but then 4 days later I was back at work. You'll be fine!

The first 2 days were rough for me too but the third was definitely better. Gas X and a heating pad helped me. Hang in there and congratulations!

Hello, I was also banded yesterday and I have alot of the same symptoms. I've been up and walking today to hopefully work out some of the discomforts. I've also been using my pain meds to help keep me more moble.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
