Feeling restriction??

Recommended Posts

I know everyone is different, but I am feeling discouraged. I have 4cc's in a 10 cc band and a couple of weeks after a fill I can feel the tightness and eat small portions. Then after two weeks I feel like I can eat anything and everything. Some people do not have ANY fills and feel restriction and lose weight like crazy. Confused :(

I don't want to get to 10cc's and still feel like this. Is that even possible? My next fill is 2-24-11 and it can't come soon enough :o

i haven;t had a fill yet, but i was wondering the same thing! I am really not feeling the restrictions...but I was reading on here that a lot of people don't feel it until they have been adjusted a few times.....what is cc? i dont know what this means?

A cc is a unit of measurement for liquids it. It is interchangable with ml (milliliter)

I am feeling the same way. I was banded back in may and I don't feel a restriction yet. The dr has had trouble the past 2 times filling the band so I am not sure if that has something to do with it. If anyone has any advice i would appreciate it. I know it takes a couple of fills but this will be my third one coming up in feb and I am hoping this one will make a difference.

I just read someone else reached it in their third fill so maybe my next fill will be closer. I can only hope, since I am so unsure what it feels like etc..:o

I am just now starting to feel restriction and have 9.4 CC's. Frustrating I know. I have been a slow loser even though I really watch what I eat and do an hour of cardio a day. I had a fill one week ago and have lost 6 pounds. Hopefully this will kickstart things for me.

I am 7.6 and doing well. I am almost 8 months banded. I need to eat very carefully but I'm not hungry and doing well. I'm close to 50 pounds down. Soon I'm going to be in the l00's. Can't wait. Try to get your fills as much as you can and then work with them. Drink slowly for 2-4 days. Add food very slowly. You'll get there.

I am 5.6cc and doing ok. I was banded in May 2010. I dont really feel restrictions but I dont feel hungry very often. I am going in next week for another fill. I will feel real restricted for about 2 weeks then not so much till the next fill :(. I need to exercise more. I dont understand why bad foods go down easier than the healthy foods. I get chicken and turkey stuck but I can eat creamy Soups or mashed potatoes easy. Im with all of you its frustrating. Good luck to you all. Hopefully 2011 will bring all of us luck

How do you define 'restriction'? It appears that your definition means 'physically limiting the amount of food' you can eat. Not your fault, since that is what way too many doctors are promoting. If so, you may be doomed to disappointment unless you are willing to get overfilled to the point of constant sliming and stuck episodes.

I'm beginning to detest the word 'restriction' because it falsely implies that it will limit how much we can eat and we'll never be hungry again. Bah humbug.

According to my physician, I am at my sweet spot because I can go 4-5 hours after a meal without feeling hungry. I can happily eat 1100-1300 calories a day without hunger...something I couldn't do pre-band. Heck, pre-band I was hungry 5 minutes after I finished a meal. I do not have physical restriction...and didn't when I had almost 3cc more and was sliming and getting stuck every meal because I was overfilled.

So the question you need to ask yourself is...are you hungry? If you're trying to eat 1/2 cup of food, then it wouldn't be surprising that you're always hungry...but if you eat a normal meal - 3 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup of vegies, 1/4 cup of starches and aren't hungry for 4-5 hours then you are already at your sweet spot.

I am defining it as the Dr. explained it to me which is that I will only be able to eat a 1/2 to 1 cup of food at a time. Now after my second fill I can eat more than that. I can eat eggs in the morning and two turkey patties just fine and then be hungry for lunch at 12. I expected to feel what the nutritionist described and the nurse, but so far don't. I thought what I feel two weeks after my fill is what you should feel all the time. So I thought I would ask the forum to get different opinions and I thank you for yours.

Have you lost weight during the two weeks that you felt "tight"? If so, that may be what is going on, you've also lost weight around your stomach and your band becomes looser and you feel "looser".

I know you didn't state that you ARE eating anything and everything, but just in case, let me reinforce, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I like what Dr. Simpson has to say about the band and how it works: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

That's pretty much how I've done it. Eat my portion and step away from the table.

I don't know your doctor and their way of filling, but I doubt you'll need to get all the way up to 10cc's. Once I got to 4 cc's, my fills got smaller and smaller and with just as good results. Try not to compare yourself (yeah I know.. easier said than done... I even do it and I KNOW better.. lol) to others.

Hope this helps.

It totally helps and thank you so much!! I am losing weight still, which I am very happy about it is just slower after the two weeks of the fill so I wasn't sure if it was me or my hunger or I am just trying to get used to this thing :-) Thanks for saying I probably won't get to 10 cc's I think that is my biggest fear.

I was the same way..I have had 3 fills and after the 3rd I finally had restriction...however, the really good restriction only lasted about 2 weeks than I was able to eat more again. after my 3rd fill I had a total of 7ccs in 10 cc band. My doctor told me most people start feeling restriction at around 7cc's. I still can eat close to 2 cups before feeling full. It depends on what I eat..somedays I feel more restriction than others and some meals I can eat more than other meals..I havnt figured it out yet. I got banded july 29th. before my 3rd fill and for the first few months after surgery I had no restriction! and it sucked! Im waiting for my 4th fill which is scheduled on Jan. 11th. I think this fill will get me at my sweet spot,at least I am hoping. I do get stuck occasionally now and can't eat a ton of food but I still can eat more than the half cup they reccomend. You will get there...before my 3rd fill I was freaking thinking I had 6cc with no restriction and that I may never get there ...but I thikn now with each fill I will feel a little more. I asked my doctor what happens when I get to 10cc?? and he said "not be able to drink water"..lol..so not saying everyone is like that but you may not feelgood restriction until closer to your max.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
