So I've been reading other peoples topics and their blogs and I've come to a conclusion; most people don't really know how insurance places work, well some do. But anyways, does anyone really know how long it takes for the APPROVAL of this life changing event takes place?

I know it's different for each insurance place and the person but just as a prediction. I'm extremely curious and really worried that mine won't approve me, even thought I have at least 4 or more co-morbidities. I have yet to even start the process of getting approved but I'm the type of person who likes to have everything, and I mean everything, planned out with tiny loopholes.

So if anyone can make an educated guess or when they went through the process, how long did it take for you to be approved?

Like you said everyone is different. Mine took 3 days and I have BCBS of Alabama PEEHIP for educators. They're pretty picky and it was only three days. That's just me though. Hopefully not much longer!!

It took me awhile from when I began(my seminar was in Aug) but,,,my dr wanted me to have tests done before he sent in "his" approval. He wanted to check my heart out and that took 2 weeks to do. I'm thankful it went well after that! I will be at hospital tomorrow at 6:30am!!

When you can, let me know how it all went. It may decrease all my worry jitters :)

Hi Kourtany

I have Empire BC/BS and on their website they list exactly what's needed and that they require 6 months of supervised dieting, etc. After that it's just a matter of getting the paperwork signed by the appropriate people (which was totally out of my control -- but I called them anyway, LOL). Perhaps you can check the website for your insurance and it may have more precise information.

Good luck!

~Fran

I have BCBS IL PPO and it took about 2 1/2 weeks to get the approval. I had to do a 3 month supervised diet before hand.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
