Anyone on here over 60 years old besides me?

Recommended Posts

Wow! I was glad to hear of someone older than me. I'm 67 and didn't realize so many young people are doing this. For me, this surgery is the only way out of spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair. Not to mention, a host of other health problems. I feel like I've been existing, not really living. So, I'm working on the qualifications, called a bunch of my doctors yesterday asking for letters stating that I needed this surgery. I'm hoping Medicare will approve, because there is no way I can possibly self-pay. I've learned a lot from this site. Thanks for all the info.

Kay Lehr congratulations on your decision to start "living". I wish you much success in your weight loss journey. I'll be sixty July 14th, and wish I'd known about this sooner. For me... this has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

Hi ! Roberta and Kay, I was banded last August, in Hungary, with Dr Bende, at Petorfy Korhaz ( Hospital), Budapest. I was 280 pounds when I was banded and as of today, I am 147 ponds. I followed a diabetic diet (low GL), because I am diabetic. I know it is a very fast loss but I have enjoyes a varied diet and just ate my food from a side plate. I too have the "head thing struggle" and found a book called Eating Less by a phsycologist called Jillian Riley. Good Healthy eating,Eleebana

Hi All !, I have lost 130 pounds and now have the blood pressure of a young girl. Unfortunatly I also have the body of a 100 years old woman ! I'm recovering from a Tummy Tuck and go to see if my stitches can come out tomorrow. Somtimes i think that i resemble one of those shai- pei dogs that never grow into their skins !

Hope you don't mind if I am in your group even if I am 57 1/2 does it count?:biggrin1: 1-10-1949 is my birthday..

So Eleebana tell me how painfull was the tummy tuck?

I am almost 1 month post-op from my lapband have lost 26 pounds to date;) ... I do not snore anymore..:kiss :guess

Thank you.Rosa

I'm 61.:help:

They say, "you are only as young as you feel". I don't know if that is good or bad.

Medicare is paying for the lap-banding surgery, but doesn't pre-approve any surgeries. The dr. I'm going to have do mine has done about 300 Medicare patients with no problems in collecting from Medicare. I'm 64, but feel 84 most days. :) I'm hoping to be banded next mo. or so. I was supposed to be banded on June 5, but some other medical problems got in the way.

Thanks for your response. I hope you are feeling better now. It sounds like you have a lot of medical complications too. I'm sorry.

Your message relieves me, I've felt much concern about signing that waiver saying that I'll be responsible if Medicare doesn't pay. I'm sure the Dr. and other providers will expect me to sign them. I have to sign them for $10.00 blood tests, but that's very different from $30,000 this surgery is supposed to cost. I'll check that with the ins. people at my surgeon's office. There is absolutely no where for me to raise that kind of money. I'll keep you in my prayers that your new surgery date is okay and that everything goes as you hope. Have you finished all your pre-surgery preparations? Keep in contact, I'd like to hear your progress. Kay

62 here, sad to admit. I wish they had this surgery when I was much younger. I convinced my 29 year old daughter to have the surgery ( her date is June 6th) hopefully it will save her the years of depression and unhappiness that I went through due to my being over weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
