Anyone on here over 60 years old besides me?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 57 and I think I know how you feel. I wish this would have been available when I was in the thirties. Maybe I wouldn't have gotten so heavy.

I love my band and all it's done for me;-)

I'm feeling a little better now that I know there are possibly some on here who are closer to my age! LOL.

Thanks Leah! What kind of insurance does your dad have? Is he trying to get Medicare to pay? I will have that in May and if my BCBS refuses I will try Medicare. Thanks for the encouragement!

Actually, my dad has BOTH medicare and BC/BS, so I am not sure who is paying for what. He def meets all the criteria for the surgery, so I would be amazed if his insurance turned him down. He is about 50 % done with the whole process and plans on March for the surgery. I never told a soul I was doing this except my husband and best friend. Well, when I heard through the grapevine that my Dad was thinking of doing this, I just HAD to step forward and confess. I mean, what better support than to have a daughter who has already gone through all the ups and downs !!!!

Good Luck and keep us posted on how things are going for you. You will find a wealth of info and so many wonderful people on this site.

Hi Sharon,

I'm not banded yet( doing the 6 month wls approval) for my insurance company. I'll be sixty in July and I know how you feel!!! I sure wish I knew about this process ten yrs ago.:hurt But..... what do they say? better late than never. When will you have your surgery? I expect to finish this whole process sometime the end of April/May.

That is wonderful! I hope she is doing well! Man, that makes me REALLY want to get it done! Did her Medicare pay for it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
