Needle wouldn't penetrate port for a fill

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I was banded on July 20th of this year, I have not been able to have one fill yet. The first attempt was 8 weeks out of surgery, doc just heard clicking sounds when attempting to access port, withdrew about 15cc of red brownish Fluid from a hematoma/seroma that had developed near the port. She suspected a flipped port which was ruled out with xrays. Fast forward to October, tried a fill under flouroscopy, needle was in correct position but could not penetrate port membrane. The PA said he had never seen anything like it. I am having port replacement this Wednesday. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this before. I have a realize band 11cc by the way.

I had the same thingn happen....I was banded on october 6th of this year and was unable to get a fill....they also heard that clicking sound, not a good thing! They did the port revision on december 2nd and everything was fine, then i developed an infection at the port site and I had the whole system removed on december 20. These things happen...it sucks, but this is life!

Thanks for your feedback. I would love to change Dr.'s at this time, but I'm HMO patient and I'm worried that the process will be a long one to get all new approvals and pre op work with the new Dr's office.
