I am schedule to have my surgery on 12/30/10 I am SO super excited and a little nervous after reading some of the posts on here. Its hard to know what to listen to and what not to since all of our MDs have different before and after plans. I have to be on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior and then 2 weeks after then work my way up to solids. I see some people on here are on a liquid diet for a month afterwards and I see some that eat anything (just in smaller portions) I was told my diet would be meat, cheese, and dark leafy veggies. Has anyone had their surgery done in St Pete, FL?

i had my surgery yesterday and am pretty sore. doesnt seem to get better with pain meds so i am guessing it is the gas from the surgery. i only had to do a liquid diet the day before and the day of surgery. today i am on to pureed diet. things dont seem to move well yet. i have 6 incisions. breathing is also difficult...i guess because of the soreness it makes it difficult to want to breathe deep. i had my surgery in charlottesville virginia. i am 41 years old and weighed 247 when i went in for my surgery. i am 5'3" tall.

I'm fairly new too. I really had no pre-op diet, due to the fact that my job had decided to switch insurance providers come the new year. My original surgery date was set for January 10th, so to make a long story short I had about 9 days to prepare for surgery, talk about stressful! I was told to just eat smaller low fat meals and to stop my birth control pills, that's all. I can't imagine being on liquids 2 weeks before and after, I was ready to kill someone after the first week!

My surgery date was 12/13/10, and everything went very well. The worst part I'd have to say was the gas pains I had for about 3-5 days. I had the worst pains in my back as soon as I woke from anesthesia, so I was ready to get up and walk around right away to just let all the gas out any which way it was willing to fly. The only surgery pains I had really just felt like "work out" pains, just that burn from too many sit ups. After a day or 2 the rest of my body was feeling that way too from lifting myself. I never realized how much I actually use my abs, or lack there of, to get up and down.

My Doc was nice enough to allow me to cut my 2 week post-op liquid diet a few days short and I was able to eat "mushy" food for Christmas. In all honesty and to my surprise, I was able to eat pretty much anything right away. Doc gave me one piece of advice, "don't eat anything that walks on land and you'll be fine" as long as I chew it to death. I guess I'm a bad girl because I did have a very little bit of turkey but I did ok with it. I was fuller much sooner than I normally would have been, but was able to eat more than expected.

My diet now is mainly focusing on Proteins and veggies. I have to admit the holidays are tough and I've only just begun this journey. I can't wait until next week so I can start fresh, start working out, and prepare for my first fill on Jan 18th!

Good Luck with your surgery! Be happy and excited, there's nothing to be afraid of, maybe just the gas hehe

Hi, I'm new to the lap band talk, but I had my lab band surgery last year, and i've lost 69 pounds to date, about another 35 pounds to go, although my doctor wants to see me loose another 55 pounds. This surgery was one of the best things I've ever done for myself!

Well I had my surgery Thursday (12/30/10) so far so good. The worst I would say is the gas pains but thats moving, thank goodness. They tell you to breath deep and cough, oh my gosh that hurts, but you gotta do it. I am feeling great, kinda nervous, but still excited. I still have to stay on a clear liquid diet for 2 more weeks, broth and popscicles are my "main dishes" I can have all the non calorie beverages I want in between as well as sugar free hard candy/gum. Thought I was gonna sleep like a baby after surgery but oh no, they were in every 15 mins, 30 mins, then every hour, ugh let me SLEEP!! lol I am really interested in talking to others that have had or going to have this done. If anyone lives in Polk county Fla I would really like to talk. I am married and have kids, not looking for anything just another lapbander. I wish the best for all of you that have yet to have your surgery and to those that have already had it keep up the great job and follow your doctors orders! Have a wonderful New Year everyone.

Thank you for the welcome - how is the liquid diet going? What kind of liquids are you drinking? I'm so curious!

i had to purchase Optifast (Protein shakes) from my surgeon i could have 3-5 per day @ 160 calories each. I could have diet drinks, Water, chicken/beef broth, wonton Soup broth only, sugarfree gum, anything you could see thru. I had to do this for 2 weeks pre op, this was during Christmas, it was a test, but I did it.

I am so happy for you. I didnt set a # for myself, I am scared that I wont be able to make it and then disappoint myself. I want to feel good, that is my goal. I wish you all the luck and I know you can keep up the good work! I see you have 2 beautiful babies to live for you can do it!!!

I am so excited for you!! The gas I think is the kicker. Its so funny to see all the different diets people are on. My next 2 weeks are liquids only, then 2 weeks of thick liquids like Protein shakes and mushy stuff, then solids woohoo! I was told I can eat meat, cheese, and dark leafy greens only. Can't wait to eat so sliced deli turkey and cheese that will be my first meal...mmmmm.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
