Hi Everyone,

I just had my surgery on 12/1410. I am already tired of the bland diet and beginning to feel hungry not long after a meal. I was wondering if any one has any advice about when I should get my first fill and how much I should get? I had my band done in Tijuana, and as I live in Wisconsin, they recomended a place called Fill USA. Has anyone else every used them? Does it hurt? Do I have to go back on Clear Liquids afterwords? Any good advise on how to break out of old habits would be very much appreciated. Also, can someone tell me how you set up the ticker tape thing to track your weight loss and goal?

Thanks,

Usually your surgeon determines how much and when you get a fill. Not sure how it works when your surgeon is in Mexico

Normally fills are given 4-6 wks after the surgery. It gives time for your body to heal. It's normal during this time to be hungry. Your body is basically the way it was before, with no restriction.

I'd use this time to start calling around and finding a place to do your fills.

Once you find a place, they'll give you better idea as to when you should get a fill, based on what that dr recommends.

I am going to the dr and possibly having my first fill at 4 weeks post op. My surgeon recommends 24 hours of liquids and then 24 hours of soft foods and then back to solids after a fill. I can't tell you how it feels, but I will post about it after my appt on Jan 6th!

doc determines the amount. far as I know. Most only give u between 1-4cc on 1st fill depending on the band size. dont be nervous about fills. they dont hurt. I have had 3 I am 3 months post op. Its like the pinch of getting an injection. the needle is huge but thats to reach the back of port. My doc says 2 days of liquids then on to reg diet

Hi Banded Diva...I guess I feel more pain than most cause my first fill was today and boy did it hurt! More than a pinch...my doc even said he'd change the needle and the 2nd attempt was less painful. I decided to go more conservative since I'm doing well and don't mind taking it slow. Also...I want my band to be a tool to eat more sensible but still enjoy eating socially. No stuck feeling except for my 1st experience this Christmas when I felt like my pants were way too tight and I had more of a clogged feeling. This was hours after I ate...no more cheating!

Good luck to you and everyone!

In TJ? We may have the same surgeon - verboonen? He will do your fills for free, you just have to get there. I searched and searched and finally found a PA that does fills in my area - I am in a VERY rural area. He charges $135, but my surgeon told me to only get filled under fluoro, so I am hoping that I will not need another fill... as I have no clue where to get another fluoro fill, other than in Mexico - I had one fill here and it was $750 - the doctor was a turkey and has since fired me because I will not spend thousands on his aftercare program..l.

Good Luck.. the more populated your area, the better your choices.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
