Diet Soda... good or evil??

Recommended Posts

Thanks again everyone from their insight! In doing a little more research on the internet...seems there is basically a negative impact on wieght loss overall involving diet soda...lap band or not. Also, seems there is a average consensus on wating 3 months... seems you are doing great Kim with your weight loss and the one a day has done no harm! Congrats to you!!

To add another Dr's opinion to the discussion.... Mr Dr says that the carbonation will expand and contract the stomach. When the gas enters it expands then when it leaves it contracts. If you do that enough over time(several times a day or even once a day) the band can slip or break away from the stitches. SO he refuses to endorse any sort of carbonitated drinks. HOWEVER.... he is fine with flat soda. I havent tried it yet and dont think I will.

I was a diet coke addict.... and i basically quit cold turkey and as much as I miss the taste and the caffine... I figure its just another step toward my good health!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
