banded 12/21 and doing good

I was looking at people's comments since their surgery. I'm glad for those who it is working well and am sorry for those who are having issues.

I feel very lucky as I was able to quit taking the pain meds the same day I came home. I made sure to get up and walk around anytime I woke up and I definately think it has helped. I have been walking around and doing things to try and help pass the gas. I think my only complaint is today I had to take pain meds to get my stomach to loosen up because of all the gas and the gasx isn't helping too awful much.

I am definately going stir crazy as I generally don't have much if any down time. I can't work out, go to the barn and clean stalls and I don't have much at home to keep my mind occupied (being a school teacher I am always thinking about things). I will be glad to go back to work and back to a routine.

I did well today on the food. I kept my plate very small and made sure I chewed my food up real good. Today was the first day I have started to feel hungry. I need to drink more Water and eat more protien so that is my goal for this next week. I am happy to say that everyone in my family ate smaller portions so I am hoping this will not only help me but the rest of my family also.

Good luck to all.

I too was banded on the 21st and feel wonderful. I love the feeling of not being hungry I find so much of my mental time free now as I'm not always thinking about my next meal. Gas is gone, the incisions feel fine...I almost feel like I never had surgery :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
